Donald Trump to become first sitting US president to attend Super Bowl

Donald Trump will be the first sitting American president to attend the Super Bowl when he looks at Sunday’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans.

An official from the White House confirmed Trump’s decision on Tuesday to the Associated Press. Sitting American vice-presidents, including Al Gore and George HW Bush, attended Super Bowls in the past.

Trump also sits down for a pre-recorded interview that will be broadcast on the pregame show for Fox, this year’s American broadcaster for the Super Bowl. The predecessor of Trump, Joe Biden, refused to sit down for a super bowl interview in 2023 and 2024, just like Trump in 2018, during his first term as president.

Trump is an avid sports fan and is often seen in golf tournaments and university football matches. While he was welcomed as president during his first term, he was hunted and greeted with “Lock Him Up” hymns by Washington Nationale fans during an appearance in the World Series 2019. Last weekend, the Canadian NBA and NHL fans brought the American Folk songs while Trump threatened the rates for American goods.

Trump did not say which team he will support on Sunday, although it would be no surprise if he goes for the chiefs. The Eagles were out of the White House of Trump in 2018 after their last victory of Super Bowl, while several figures around the Chiefs, including Kicker Harrison Butker and Brittany MahomesThe wife of Kansas City Quarterback Patrick Mahomes has tailored himself to the Maga movement. Trump also congratulated the chiefs when they reached the Super Bowl by beating the Buffalo Bills, a compliment that he did not extend to the Eagles.

“Congratulations to the chiefs of Kansas City,” Trump said on social media. “What a great team, coach, quarterback and almost all the other, including those fantastic fans, who voted for me (Maga!) In record numbers. Likewise congratulations on the Buffalo Bills with a huge season. They will win for a long time in the future !!! “

The decision comes as a change in Trump’s relationship with the NFL. He spent a lot of time attacking the competition in his first term after players started kneeling for the national anthem in protest against social and racial injustice.
