Trump’s last words before and after shots rang out: ‘Let me get my shoes’

Former President Donald Trump compared his record on combating illegal immigration to President Joe Biden’s open border policies just before the assassination attempt at his rally in Pennsylvania.

Trump told the crowd, “If you really want to see something this sad, look at what happened,” he said just before being interrupted when eight to 10 shots rang out.

Mid-sentence, Trump grabbed his right ear, blood spurting down his face, and ducked.

U.S. Secret Service agents immediately stormed the stage in Butler, Pennsylvania, to provide cover for the former president. They did a quick assessment of Trump as he lay on the ground and could be heard confirming that the “gunman was down” before moving him.

“I’m going to get my shoes,” Trump was heard saying as officers held him up.

He then clenched his fists violently as blood streamed down the right side of his face.

Trump was rushed to a local hospital and treated for his gunshot wound.

He posted a statement on Truth Social confirming that he had been struck by a bullet, while also thanking the Secret Service and law enforcement for their “quick response to the recent shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania.”

‘Most importantly, I would like to express my condolences to the family of the person who died at the demonstration, and also to the family of another person who was seriously injured.’

“It’s unbelievable that something like this could happen in our country. There is no information about the shooter at this time, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew right away that something was wrong because I heard a whooshing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet tear through my skin. There was a lot of blood loss, so that’s when I realized what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”

The assassination attempt occurred just days before the Republican Party convention opened in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Trump is expected to address delegates in attendance, who will formally nominate him as the Republican Party’s candidate for president.
