Donald Trump prosecutor Jack Smith has incurred nearly $2 million in security costs to protect him and his family from threats, while taxpayers shell out nearly $10 million to investigate the former president

The special prosecutor investigating Donald Trump for mishandling classified documents and alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election has so far cost US taxpayers more than $10 million, including $2 million in security.

Jack Smith was appointed on Nov. 18 and now has a team of 40 to 60 prosecutors, paralegals and support staff working to investigate the former president.

On June 8, Smith charged Trump with 37 counts related to the documents illegally stored at Mar-a-Lago. He is expected to file charges soon in connection with allegations of interference in the 2020 election.

Trump repeatedly refers to Smith, a former war crimes prosecutor, as “deranged,” and has shared on social memes showing him wielding a baseball bat at Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who is prosecuting him for hush money payments from the porn star.

Smith, his family and other accusers are now protected by U.S. Marshalls — $2 million so far.

Smith’s wife, documentary filmmaker Katy Chevigny, has also been attacked by Trump after learning she made a documentary about Michelle Obama, Becoming, and donated to Joe Biden’s campaign.

The couple lived in the Netherlands until last year and have a young daughter.

Smith’s work, which encompassed the January 6 riots, is widely regarded as one of the most expansive and complicated cases in history.

At the height of the Justice Department’s work to bring those behind the riot to justice, many U.S. law firms and all 56 FBI field offices had officials searching for leads.

At one point, more than 600 agency officers and support staff were assigned to riot cases.

Smith’s research, The New York Times reported, are currently on track to cost the U.S. taxpayer $25 million in a year.

“What Jack Smith is doing is actually pretty cheap given the weighty nature of the allegations,” said Timothy J. Heaphy, a former U.S. attorney who served as a lead investigator for the House committee investigating the attack on the Capitol.

Smith’s team is significantly larger than Robert K. Hur’s, which is investigating President Joe Biden’s handling of classified documents after he leaves the vice presidency.

Hur has about 10 to 20 people working for him and has spent about $1.2 million from his appointment in January through March, likely equating to an annual cost of $5.6 million..

Robert Mueller’s investigation into the 2016 Trump campaign connections with Russia was of a similar scope to Smith’s and he spent $8.5 million in its first six months.

“Any time you see these radical lunatics and their associates in the fake news media talking about President Donald J. Trump’s “Trials and Tribulations,” please remember it is all a coordinated HOAX, just like Russia, Russia, Russia, the “No Collusion” Mueller witch hunt, the bogus dossier, FISA fraud and everything else, to MAKE ANOTHER ELECTION by MISCONDUCT OF PROSECUTION at levels never seen before in the U.S. have been seen. Crazy Jack Smith has already spent over $25,000,000!!!”

He added, “Just think about it! Between Mueller, deranged Jack Smith, and congressional committees, more than $100 million has been spent investigating me since I came down the escalator at Trump Tower.

Biden is a criminal and almost no money has been spent investigating him in comparison.

“Be smart, Republicans, they’re trying to steal the election from you!”
