Donald Trump Makes Bizarre Claim About U.S. Postal Service Control Over Presidential Election
- The USPS processes mail and postal ballots in presidential elections
Donald Trump says in a new post that the United States Postal Service (USPS) will handle the 2024 election, accusing the agency of being unprepared to handle mail-in ballots.
The former president pointed to the frequent delays and lost mail as evidence that the USPS cannot be trusted to receive and deliver home-administered 2024 ballots.
Voting by mail, early voting and voting at home have become much more popular since the COVID-19 pandemic forced states and the federal government to allow voters to cast their ballots by mail.
But Trump and his allies claim this was the reason for their allegations of massive fraud in the 2020 presidential election.
Donald Trump claims the U.S. Postal Service is running the 2024 election and is unprepared to handle mail-in ballots
“The United States Postal Service has admitted that it is a poorly run organization, with mail being lost and delays occurring at levels we have never seen before,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social Sunday morning.
“If this is a FACT, how can we expect to trust or allow the US Postal Service to run the 2024 presidential election?” he asked. “They can’t. HELP!”
When voters fill out ballots at home, they can return them by mail or drop them in a designated mailbox.
Trump claimed in a follow-up message on Sunday that CNN had reported that the USPS was not prepared for an influx of ballots.
The former president didn’t specify exactly where he got the information, but it appears to reference a 2020 CNN report that said some states were concerned they wouldn’t be able to deliver ballots on time due to election laws.
Those who complete their ballots early or by mail can mail them in via USPS or drop them off at a special ballot drop box.
“The United States Postal Service is not prepared for this massive influx of ballots,” CNN said, Trump posted on Truth Social.
There are still multiple lawsuits pending from Trump and his camp alleging that the 2020 election was plagued by fraud and Democratic interference, but none have been successful so far.
Trump also faces legal challenges over his claims that the election was “stolen.”
And the 2024 Republican presidential nominee still claims he was the rightful winner over President Joe Biden in the last election.
