Donald Trump’s truth with numbers has always been flexible at best. Like his claim of weighing 215 pounds, his claim of winning club golf championships seems equally questionable.
But that hasn’t stopped the former president from adding another title to his locker — claiming on Truth Social that he won the senior club championship at his course in Bedminster, New Jersey.
“For those who care, I’m happy to report that I just won the Senior Club Championship (must be over 50!) at Bedminster (Trump National Golf Club), with a round of 67,” Trump wrote.
To discourage any doubters, Trump assured his followers that there was no “handkerchief/lank” going on.
“A lot of people are watching, and I’m surrounded by Secret Service agents. There’s not much you can do even if you wanted to, and I don’t. For some reason I’m just a good golfer/athlete. I’ve won a lot of club championships, and it’s always a great honour!’
Donald Trump has claimed to have won his Bedminster club’s senior championship
The former president called it a “great honor” and claimed to have shot a round of 67
He also posted the private number of his club’s head golf pro if anyone disputed the claim
Less than two months ago, Trump was caught on camera taking an absolutely horrendous smack at one of his own courses — which has led many to question the seriousness of the ex-president’s claim.
It also doesn’t help that earlier this month a tour of pro golfers came over the same course Trump played. Only six rounds of a full field of LIV golfers were played at 67 or lower. Two of those rounds were for winner Cam Smith.
Trump also competed in the pro-am at the LIV Golf Bedminster event – but only played a few holes.
To support his claim, Trump posted the course professional’s home phone number on Trump National, essentially doxxing his own employee, which led to people flooding his cell phone with calls.
Social media quickly questioned the claim that he fired, with many outraging the former president.
Actor Billy Baldwin wrote on Twitter: “Trump hasn’t won anything in decades without cheating. Not his golf, his marriages, his business, his taxes, his charities…or his elections. He hit a 67, just like he weighs 215.”
“Donald Trump swings a golf club like he learned to play from (1950s sitcom character) Ralph Cramden (sic). Dude claims he shot a 67. I assure you, Trump has never come close to breaking par in his life,” one Twitter user wrote.
Another wrote: “Trump has one of the most horrible golf swings I’ve ever seen. It’s heavily over-the-top, from the outside in, resulting in a huge stretch. The only way he shoots a 67 is to score on his front nine.”
At the LIV tournament on the same course a few weeks ago, only four rounds of 67 or better were played – two rounds of which belonged to tournament winner Cameron Smith
Social media ripped into the former president, debating his claim that he shot a 67
Another joked, “…”I just won the Senior Club Championship at Bedminster (Trump National Golf Club), shooting a round of 67. “3” 215lb body performing 3 sets of 8×500 squats.”
Trump and 18 of his aides were recently charged with racketeering in the state of Georgia for accessing election officials’ voting machines.
The president has continued to tout his false claim that the 2020 election was rigged and that he was the actual winner.
His repeated insistence in the immediate aftermath of the election led a group of his supporters to storm the United States Capitol building on January 6, 2021, in an attempt to halt the certification of votes in the presidential election.
