Donald Trump tells Greenland residents why they should join the U.S. in surprise call

Donald Trump spoke directly to locals in Nuuk, Greenland, on Tuesday during his son’s visit to the Danish territory.

The president-elect called in to a lunch Donald Trump Jr. had with community members so he could tell them why he wants the U.S. to buy Greenland.

“You are so strategically located,” Trump told those dining out at lunch, as his son put him on speaker phone.

He claims that Greenland would be a huge asset for the US because it would allow Washington to provide greater security to the entire region and the population of the Arctic island.

Don Jr. landed in Greenland on Tuesday morning for a trip that many claimed was “personal” in nature. But it immediately became clear that he is there on a mission to further Trump’s efforts to acquire the island in his second term.

And Trump reiterated on social media that the trip is intended to fulfill these intentions.

‘Don Jr. and my representatives are landing in Greenland,” Trump wrote on Truth Social with a video of the arrival. ‘The reception was great. They and the Free World need safety, security, strength and PEACE!’

“This is a deal that has to happen,” he stressed. ‘MAGA. MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!’

Trump emphasized to reporters during a press conference at Mar-a-Lago on Tuesday that he is serious about the plan to make Canada part of the US, but has forcefully ruled it out.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen reiterated that Greenland is not for sale.

She said on Tuesday that Greenland’s Prime Minister Múte Egede has been “very, very clear” that they have no intention of becoming part of the US.

“There is a lot of support among the people of Greenland that Greenland is not for sale and will not be for sale in the future,” Frederiksen emphasized.

Speaking to the Greenland community earlier during his son’s lunch break at the Hotel Hans Egede, the incoming US president said over his son’s phone speaker: ‘I just want to say that it is a very special place. It needs security for itself, but also for the world.’

‘The location actually, you see the people and the ships sailing around, and they are not the right ships. These are not the ships you want to know more about.’

“So we need security – our country needs it and the whole world needs it,” he concluded to cheers from those listening to the call.

Don Jr. landed on the cold, arctic island region Tuesday morning for a surprise trip.

While several people said Don Jr.’s trip to Greenland was “personal” and not political, the president-elect noted how his son was accompanied by his “representatives.”

Don Jr. was accompanied on the visit to Greenland by Sergio Gor and Charlie Kirk, as well as by James Blair (not pictured), Trump's new deputy chief of staff for legislative, political and public affairs.

However, the chairman of one of Greenland’s largest political parties denied a meeting with Don Jr. and reiterated the sentiment that Greenland is not up for grabs.

Siumut party leader Erik Jensen told the press: “I can confirm that I have no intention of meeting him. I’ll say it again: Greenland is not for sale and never will be.’

“Everyone is welcome to visit our country, including Trump,” he added. “If the son of the future president, who is also his own advisor, shows interest in our country, it means that Greenland is serious.”

Don Jr. posted several videos and photos of Greenland on Tuesday morning.

James Blair accompanies him on his visit to Greenland. Blair will serve as deputy chief of staff for legislative, political and public affairs for Trump’s second presidential term. He was the political director of the 2024 campaign and oversaw a ground game to reach low-propensity voters.

Also on the trip are conservative Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk and Sergio Gor, with whom Don co-owns Winning Team Publishing.

Sources told DailyMail.com ahead of the trip that Don planned to record video and podcasting content and stressed he would not be meeting with government officials or political figures.

Some reports suggested that the president-elect’s eldest son was visiting at the request of Jensen, who is Greenland’s finance minister and supports Greenland’s independence.

Jensen now denies that he plans to meet Don.
