Former President Donald Trump dismissed Taylor Swift’s shocking endorsement of Kamala Harris, saying Wednesday morning that he prioritized another NFL award.
“I actually like Ms. Mahomes a lot better, if you want to know the truth,” Trump told Fox & Friends on Wednesday morning after the primetime debate in Philadelphia.
He was referring to Brittany Mahomes, the wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes — a friend of Taylor Swift’s who attended several games with the singer last season, cheering on the team and Swift’s friend Jason Kelce.
Mahomes drew attention when she “liked” a post from Trump on his Instagram page, suggesting a political rift between the friends.
“She’s a big fan of Trump,” Trump said in the interview, which followed a late-night interview with Sean Hannity on the same network after he clashed with Harris in which several conservative commentators gave his rival the upper hand.
“I was not a Taylor Swift fan. It was just a matter of time. She couldn’t — you couldn’t possibly support Biden. Look at Biden. You couldn’t possibly support him.”
Former President Donald Trump called Fox News hours after Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris
He called Swift a “very liberal” person and tried to dismiss her support for Harris, ending with a pointed “cat lady” joke.
“She always seems to support a Democrat, she’ll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace. But no. I like Brittany. I think Brittany is great. She got a lot of news last week. She’s a big MAGA fan, that’s the one I like better than Taylor Swift,” Trump said.
Swift made a dramatic endorsement of Kamala Harris just after the presidential debate, in one of the biggest moments of a monumental evening in the 2024 race.
The megastar made the shocking announcement on Instagram following the confrontation on ABC, in which Trump accused migrants of eating pets and said Democrats “want to execute babies in their ninth month of pregnancy.”
The world has long been waiting for the 34-year-old Pennsylvania native to share her opinion on the election after she endorsed Joe Biden in 2020.
She chose Trump’s first meeting with Harris to make clear her support for the Democrats, and criticized the former president for “falsely” expressing her support with a series of AI images.
In a race that could be decided by narrow margins, Swift’s endorsement could have a major impact on momentum with less than eight weeks until Election Day.
It was the culmination of a positive evening for Harris, who was hailed by many as the winner of the most important evening of her career.
Trump’s campaign dismissed the endorsement, claiming it was more evidence that Swift is part of the “Democratic elite.”
Swift poked fun at Republicans in her endorsement. She included a photo of her cat, a dig at Republican vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance, who mocked “childless cat ladies.” Harris supporters took the rant to heart, forming groups of cat ladies for Harris.
The singer said in her post that she was shocked by the false reports that she had supported Trump.
“I will be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 presidential election,” she wrote.
She signed her post “childless cat lady.”
Trump’s campaign dismissed the endorsement.
“It’s further evidence that the Democratic Party is, unfortunately, the party of the wealthy elite,” Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told DailyMail.com.
“Taylor Swift may make great music, but she doesn’t understand the struggles of everyday, hardworking families. And President Trump speaks for those hardworking, struggling families who don’t have the privilege of living in a gated community like Taylor Swift, who need to defund their local police, who are demanding their Second Amendment rights to defend themselves and their families because they don’t have armed security like Taylor Swift.”
Swift has made an endorsement before. She supported Joe Biden in the 2020 election. And in a 2019 interview with The Guardian, Swift said she backed Hillary Clinton over Trump in the 2016 election and accused Trump of treating the presidency like “an autocracy.”
Taylor Swift posted her message of support shortly after Donald Trump and Kamala Harris concluded their first debate
Her post describing her support was lengthy:
“Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. If you haven’t already, now is a good time to do your research on the issues at hand and the positions these candidates are taking on the issues that matter most to you. As a voter, I will make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country,” Swift wrote.
“It was recently brought to my attention that an AI of ‘me’ that falsely endorsed Donald Trump’s presidential campaign had been posted on his site. It really raised my fears around AI and the dangers of spreading disinformation. It led me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my real plans for this election as a voter. The easiest way to combat disinformation is with the truth,” she added.
She noted that “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she’s fighting for the rights and causes that I believe need a warrior to defend. I think she’s a determined, talented leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we’re led by calm and not chaos. I was so encouraged and impressed by her choice of running mate @timwalz, who has spent decades advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body.”
“I’ve done my research and I’ve made my choice. It’s completely up to you to do your research and make the choice. I also want to say, especially to first-time voters, remember that you have to be registered to vote! I also find it much easier to vote early. I’ll link in my story where you can register and where you can find the dates and information for early voting,” she wrote.
She ended the song with, “With love and hope, Taylor Swift Childless Cat Lady.”
She had her calico cat Benjamin Button in the lead role. He is her third of three cats.
Tim Walz learned about the recommendation during an interview on MSNBC.
“I’m incredibly grateful to Taylor Swift,” Walz said. “I say that as a fellow cat owner.”
“That’s the kind of courage we need in America,” he added. “This is an opportunity Swifties: KamalaHarris.com — go there.”
Harris stopped by a viewing party after her debate with Trump. Her walk-off song was Swift’s The Man.

Swift’s post received more than 2.8 million likes in less than an hour. Swift has 283 million followers on Instagram.
The singer, who is in a relationship with Chiefs player Travis Kelce, has reportedly split from her girlfriend Brittany Mahomes, the wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick.
But the pair appear to have put their differing political views aside and were spotted together at the US Open last weekend.
Mahomes liked a number of Trump’s Instagram posts, leading to speculation that she supports the former president.
And she sent Instagram into meltdown after she liked a comment from a follower who said, ‘TRUMP-VANCE 2024’.
She also liked another show of support after drawing anger by initially liking a Trump post about the November election.
“Good to see you’re not giving in,” was the comment she liked. “We’re all entitled to our own opinions and shouldn’t be forced into submission.”
Trump thanked Mahomes for her support.
“I want to thank the wonderful Brittany Mahomes for defending me so vigorously, and for MAGA being the largest and most powerful political movement in the history of our now failed country,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social network earlier this month.
Swift has been criticized by some for her close friendship with Mahomes. The two women often hang out together at games and hug frequently.
Swift and Kelce joined the two Mahomes at the US Open in New York. Swift was attacked by fans for hugging Mahomes and was pressured to clarify her own positions on the presidential election.

Donald Trump’s campaign ignored Taylor Swift’s endorsement of his Democratic rival
It’s unclear how influential Swift’s endorsement will be.
An NBC News poll in November found that 40% of registered voters had a favorable view of Swift, while 16% had an unfavorable view of Swift.
But Swift has a large fan base among young voters. In her endorsement of Harris, she also encouraged people to register to vote.
