Donald Trump, 78, challenges Joe Biden, 81, to a cognitive test, but then makes up his doctor’s name and forgets to answer questions before leaving the stage at the end of the speech
It was intended as an opportunity to highlight the differences between a powerful 78-year-old Republican candidate and the vulnerable 81-year-old incumbent president.
But Donald Trump apparently suffered two embarrassing memory errors on Saturday night, even as he challenged Joe Biden to a cognitive test.
Not only did he misremember his doctor’s name during his speech to supporters, but he also seemed to forget a promise to answer questions at the end of the performance and simply walked off stage when he was done.
In doing so, he reminded voters that the choice in November will be between the two oldest presidential candidates in history.
“I’ll answer some questions at the end of the speech,” he said at the start of his speech to 8,000 adoring fans at a convention center in Detroit, Michigan.
“So this is different from Joe Biden. He doesn’t answer questions.’
Former President Donald Trump spent Saturday in the key swing state of Michigan, where he addressed Turning Point Action’s People’s Convention in the evening
He then spoke for about an hour and twenty minutes (much more than Biden’s usual fifteen minutes) in his usual freestyle. But in the end he seemed to have forgotten his promise.
With the crowd cheering and the noticeable absence of his usual walk-off music, Trump stood on stage for several seconds to thank his supporters.
Only then did “Hold On, I’m Comin,” Sam and Dave’s song begin.
A concerned-looking Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point Action who organized the gathering of conservatives, rushed to the stage to confer with the former president, who was already heading backstage.
“One more time… give it up for President Donald Trump,” he said, ending the evening.
It was a strange ending to a typically boisterous speech. He laid out his priorities if he were to win the presidential election and repeatedly criticized his Democratic opponent.
But on the day after his 78th birthday, he showed signs of weakness.
“He doesn’t even know what the word inflation means,” he said of Biden. “I don’t think if you gave him a quiz.” ..I think he should take a cognitive test just like me.
‘I took a cognitive test. And I asked him: Doc Ronnie, Doc Ronnie Johnson. Does everyone know Congressman Ronnie Johnson from Texas, he was the White House doctor?

Trump received an enthusiastic welcome from supporters as fireworks lit up the room
But he wasn’t. Trump’s White House physician and Texas congressman is named Ronnie Jackson.
Trump is ahead of Biden in the polls and has compared much of his high-powered approach to campaigning to the Democrat’s vulnerability.
But he also regularly makes verbal mistakes, and a recent report found that his rambling speech worried some CEOs at a meeting.
He spent Saturday in Detroit, Michigan, taking on his rival in what should be a reliably Democratic city.
In the evening he addressed 8,000 supporters at Turning Point Action’s People’s Convention.

He blasted the Bidens for traveling back and forth across the Atlantic Ocean aboard Air Force One, making multiple trips to Europe and, in the first lady’s case, returning to the U.S. for just 24 hours to support Hunter during his process.
And he vowed to start unraveling Biden’s policies on his first day in office.
“This time next year, America’s borders will be closed, sealed and secure…,” he said. ‘Inflation will completely retreat.
“Our economy will come roaring back. Optimism will increase. American pride will soar.
“The American Dream will flourish again for citizens of every race, religion, color and creed.”
About 1,000 people gathered at 180 Church in Detroit, Michigan to hear Trump speak

The speech also included the usual grievances and wild claims: that the military is building electric tanks, that President Volodomyr Zelensky is the biggest salesman in history, that dishwashers don’t get water, and that the 2020 election was stolen.
Trump’s itinerary highlighted the tightrope he is trying to walk in the 2024 election. He first visited an African-American church before speaking at a meeting of Turning Point Action, a group that the Anti Defamation League says targets racists and extremists attracts.
Biden won Michigan in 2020 by three points. But now the former president has gone a step further with a half-point lead in the moving poll averages.
“We think we’re going to win this state. We are way ahead right now,” Trump said earlier during a roundtable discussion at 180 Church in the city’s northwest.
‘So it’s an honor to be here. It is a very important area for us.’

“He has been the worst president for black people,” Trump said.
