Donald Glover set to debut new Childish Gambino music on upcoming livestream – four years after his last project: ‘It’s a rollout, dummy’

Donald Glover, also known by his stage name Childish Gambino, announced that he will start work on his new album ‘Rollout’ on Sunday evening.

The 40-year-old musician and actor announced on his Twitter on Sunday afternoon that he is working on releasing new songs.

‘GILGA Radio tonight at 11pm pst. Streamed live on Instagram @donaldglover,” he wrote.

After a fan wondered if he would be playing new music, Glover — who was recently spotted with girlfriend Michelle White in a rare red carpet appearance — cheekily wrote back, “Of course. It’s a rollout dummy.’

The new project will be Gambino’s first in over four years, following the release of his studio album 3.15.20 in March 2020.

His fans were delighted with the announcement, with one writing: ‘WE WILL BE THERE NO MATTER WHAT!!!’

“I missed you please rap again,” another added.

Many also speculated whether he might join in on the massive rap feud between hip-hop stars Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Rick Ross and a number of other artists that has unfolded over the past week.

“Take shots at Drake and Kendrick like you did before,” one person wrote.

“Childish Gambino is pulling up on the Drake & Kendrick Lamar beef,” someone else chimed in.

The artist previously teased new music earlier this year, sharing a tracklist for a new album called Atavista on Instagram in March.

In 2023 he said E! News, ‘I’m making music now, I love it. I’m actually working, I’m in the studio. I brought in people, like secret people, who worked on little things.”

“But I’m just making it for fun now. But something will happen soon, I promise. Something will happen.’

The announcement comes after Gambino took the stage at Coachella on Saturday night with Tyler, the Creator.

Together, the dynamic duo performed “Running Out of Time” from Tyler’s 2019 album, Igor. Tyler also joked about how he “hated” Gambino but went to therapy to work it out.

It has been more than twelve years since Glover got his musical career off the ground with his debut LP Camp (2011), which debuted at number 11 on the US Billboard 200 after the singles Bonfire, Heartbeat and Fire Fly.

It would be two years before he followed up his LP Because The Internet (2013), which was again greeted with positive reviews and a number seven debut on the US Billboard 200.

It took three years before he released his third LP Awaken, My Love! released. (2016), and once again his music received more good reviews, on its way to number five on the US Billboard 200.

Although there has been a long gap since he last released a full-length LP, Glover did work on new music with Kirby, via an EP earlier in 2023 for his satirical comedy horror thriller series Swarm, starring Dominique Fishback, which he co-authored with Janine made. Nabers.

For Swarm, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video last March, Glover serves as writer, director and executive producer.

During the time since 3.15.20 ended, the artist wrapped up his comedy-drama series Atlanta in November 2022 after a four-season stint as the show’s creator, star, director, writer, and executive producer.

During that time, he also originated the role of Marshall Lee in the adult animated Max series, Adventure Time: Fionna And Cake, which has since been greenlit for a second season.

In a change of pace for his acting, Glover took on the lead role in the spy comedy series Mr. & Mrs. Smith, for which he also wears the hat of writer and executive producer.

Based on the 2005 film starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Glover stars as John Smith alongside Maya Erskine as Jane Smith in the new Mr. & Mrs. Smith series that premiered on Amazon Prime Video on February 2, 2024.

On a personal note, Glover has been dating girlfriend Michelle White since 2015, and the couple are the proud parents of three sons.
