Dominic West and his wife, Catherine Fitzgerald, looked as close as ever when they celebrated Boxing Day in Ireland over the festive period.

The actor, 53, and his wife, 51, joined their family at her ancestral home, Glin Castle, for Christmas and shared photos on social media.

The couple previously rescued Glin Castle from sale after it had been in the family for 700 years, turning it into a viable business as a hotel that welcomes guests.

In the happy snapshot, the couple seemed a world away from the drama that followed them after Dominic’s romantic getaway to Italy with his co-star Lily James.

They confirmed during a red carpet appearance for series five of The Crown in November that their relationship was back on track after two years of uncertainty as they posed with their family at the event.

Leaning in for a prolonged red carpet kiss with his wife, the actor’s notorious Roman vacation with Lily and his timid return to the family home seemed forgotten.

Family seat: Catherine previously told Tatler that she would like to live full-time at Glin Castle, which sits on a 400-acre property on the banks of the River Shannon in Co Limerick.

Dominic shocked viewers when he was photographed passionately kissing actress Lily James during a romantic getaway in Rome amid the pandemic in 2020, shortly after international travel restrictions were lifted.

The couple didn’t seem to care who saw them as they cuddled up and shared a scooter ride while taking in the sights throughout the day.

The actor was still married to Catherine and no separation had been publicly announced, but he was not wearing his wedding ring.

Months after the Rome scandal, Catherine revealed that she was trying to convince the embattled actor to move into his family’s seat in Ireland.

Speaking in the March 2021 issue of Tatlerthe designer said she would like to live full-time at Glin Castle, which sits on a 400-acre property.

The castle has been in Catherine’s family for 700 years and has played host to Taylor Swift, Sir Mick Jagger and Marianne Faithfull.

“I still can’t persuade Dominic to completely change them, but I’m working on it,” he told the magazine.

The landscape gardener is the eldest son of Desmond FitzGerald, the 29th Knight of Glin, who died in 2011 without any children to inherit his title.

‘The title can skip a generation and my son [Senan] could be the next Knight of Glin’, FitzGerald explained. “But he is crazy about football.”
