Domestic violence incident in South Hedland, Western Australia: woman taken to hospital with stab wounds, partner commits suicide

A woman has been hospitalized with stab wounds, while her partner committed suicide following a domestic violence incident in South Hedland, Western Australia.

A 41-year-old woman was taken to hospital at around 7:45am on Wednesday with multiple stab wounds from a home on Mitchie Crescent in South Hedland.

Her partner, 45, was found dead near an abandoned church next door. It is clear that he committed suicide.

Police have covered the location with a large tarp to protect passersby from a reportedly gruesome scene while the detective investigates.

The woman is believed to be seriously but not life-threateningly injured.

Witnesses posted on Facebook that they encountered the gruesome scene shortly after the event.

“Their bodies were on the ground,” they said. “He was out on the grass, in plain sight.”

Several others reported hearing loud noises in the area hours earlier.

“I wonder if that’s related to the loud bangs I heard between 3am and 5am,” someone asked.

Another added: “I heard it at 4:09 am – I went out and couldn’t see anything.”

The incident follows the deaths of two women within a fortnight in suspected domestic violence attacks in Western Australia.

Georgia Lyall was shot dead by her ex-partner Rebel bikie Luke Noormets at her home in South Guildford before returning to his own home in Innaloo, setting it on fire and committing suicide.

Just days later, Tiffany Woodley was allegedly beaten to death by her former partner Peter Damjanovic at her Bedford home two weeks ago.

WA Prime Minister Roger Cook has now scheduled a summit meeting for next week to address the rising number of DV cases in the state.
