Domestic airlines carried 1.30 crore passengers in September, which was 6.38 percent more than the same period last year, according to official data released on Tuesday.
In September last year, airlines carried 1.22 crore passengers.

IndiGo’s market share rose to 63 per cent, while Air India’s rose to 15.1 per cent in September 2024, according to data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
AIX Connect, which was merged with Air India Express this month, topped the airline list in On Time Performance (OTP) at 70.1 percent, replacing Akasa Air, whose OTP fell to 62.1 percent.
The data showed that Vistara’s market share fell to 10 percent last month and AIX Connect’s to 4.1 percent.
The total domestic market share of the Air India Group, comprising Air India, AIX Connect and Vistara, was 29.2 percent.
In September, Akasa Air and SpiceJet carried 5.73 lakh and 2.61 lakh passengers respectively. While Akasa Air’s market share stood at 4.4 percent, SpiceJet’s fell to 2 percent.
Crisis-hit SpiceJet saw its market fall 64 per cent in September compared to January, when it cornered 5.6 per cent of India’s total domestic passenger flights of Rs 1.31 crore.
Meanwhile, IndiGo’s OTP stood at 69.2 percent, followed by Vistara (69.1 percent) and Air India (68.1 percent). The OTP of SpiceJet and Alliance Air stood at 30.4 percent and 53.8 percent respectively in September.
The OTP of domestic scheduled flights is calculated for four metro airports: Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai.
As many as 48,222 passengers were affected by flight cancellations and airlines spent Rs 88.14 lakh on compensation and facilities for them in September.
Flight delays affected 2,16,484 passengers last month and airlines spent Rs 2.4 crore on facilitation, according to the data.
For denied boarding, airlines spent Rs 75.08 lakh on compensation and facilities for 756 affected passengers.
