Dolphins star Daewood Davis was carted off the field Saturday night and rushed to the hospital after colliding with Jaguars linebacker Dequan Jackson.

With 8:32 left in the preseason game at Jacksonville’s TIAA Bank Field, play was suspended after Davis went down from the collision with Jackson and was left motionless on the field.

The 24-year-old was then attended to by medical staff from both teams before being immobilized on a backboard and taken away.

The Dolphins confirmed after the game that Davis is now conscious after being taken to Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville for further evaluation.

Miami said in a statement: “Dolphins WR Daewood Davis sustained an injury during tonight’s game and has been taken to Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville for further evaluation. He is conscious and has movement in all limbs.’

Davis angled when James Blackman threw a pass, but Jackson hit him in the head for the incompletion as the two players and defensive back Kaleb Hayes came together.

After Jackson received a penalty for undue roughness, Davis remained face down on the grass before teammates and medical personnel intervened.

“We just hope for a full recovery. I’ve had good news and hope to get even better news in the future,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel told reporters after the game.

“First of all, he’s a great spirit. He’s magnetic. He has a full personality. His teammates really love (him). That tells you everything you need to know about a human being.’

Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa also paid tribute to his teammate after his serious injury on Saturday night.

“A lot of guys respect him, he’s very respected in the dressing room. He’s a great player and a great teammate,” said Tagovailoa.

‘He’s a great person. It would have just been hard to have gone back out after seeing something like that.’

Davis, who was signed by the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent, is expected to stay in the hospital overnight.

It remains to be seen how serious the former Oregon and Western Kentucky college star’s injury is, with just two weeks left until Miami’s regular season opener against the Chargers.

The Dolphins trailed the Jaguars 31–18 in their final preseason appearance at the time play was suspended.
