Dolly Parton reveals the reason WHY she repeatedly turned down offers to perform at Super Bowl halftime shows: ‘I just didn’t think I was big enough’
Dolly Parton revealed she was offered to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show “many times” but always turned it down.
The 77-year-old country star explained that the reason she chose not to perform on football’s biggest night was because she “didn’t think I was big enough to do a production that big.”
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published on Thursday, she said: ‘I couldn’t do it because of other things, or I just didn’t think I was big enough to do it – to do such a big production.’
The 10-time Grammy winner – who dazzled in a Halloween-themed dress at a ribbon cutting for her fashion exhibition this weekend – continued: “When you think about those shows, they’re big, big productions. I’ve never done anything with such a big production.
“I don’t know if I could have done that,” she added. “I guess that’s what I thought at the time.”
Legendary idea: Dolly Parton, 77, revealed she was offered to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show ‘many times’ but always turned it down
Instead of a halftime show, she said she would consider doing “a production show” after releasing her first rock album Rockstar – due out later this month on November 17.
“It would make more sense,” she explained regarding the halftime show — which will see Usher headline the upcoming Super Bowl show on February 11, 2024.
Since she is set to release her rock ‘n’ roll album, she said she is open to the idea of putting on a bigger performance.
“That could change,” she said. “Maybe I can do a production show.”
While speaking to the outlet, she also revealed that she had also previously turned down Elvis Presley when he wanted to record her hit song I Will Always Love You.
She initially turned down the invitation to become a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because she did not feel qualified as a country artist.
“They’re going to put me in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and someone like Meat Loaf or any of those other big artists never even made it? “I didn’t want to take away from someone who spent their life in that world like I spent mine in country music,” she recalled thinking.
She said she finally accepted it when she learned there are a variety of other artists in the Rock Hall because of the influence of their music around the world.

Influential and inspired: She said she finally accepted it when she learned there are a variety of other artists in the Rock Hall because of the influence of their music around the world. And when she was inducted into the Hall of Fame, she thought about finally making a rock ‘n’ roll album
“But I still didn’t feel good about it,” she said. “I still thought I had to earn it.”
When she was inducted into the Hall of Fame, she thought about finally making a rock ‘n’ roll album.
“That’s why I thought, ‘Well, the timing is perfect. There is a real reason for me to make this rock and roll album,” she added. “Here I am a rock star at 77.”
Her highly anticipated Rolodex, Rockstar – which consists of 30 rock classics and original songs and features many music icons as artists – will be released on November 17.
Some of her collaborations include: Paul McCartney, Elton John, Stevie Nicks, Sting, Joan Jett, Kid Rock, Emmylou Harris, Ringo Starr, Steven Tyler, Melissa Etheridge and more.
She also collaborated with Chris Stapleton, Miley Cyrus, Lizzo, Pink and Brandi Carlile on many of her rock songs.
