Dolly Parton is ‘ready for a diet’ in January.
The 78-year-old singer enjoys spending the holidays with her loved ones and although they spend most of December partying, she is ready to stop overindulging towards the end of the period.
“We all start eating around Thanksgiving and we eat until January 1st, and then we all go on a diet. Do you know how that goes?’ she said Poet magazine.
“So you think, well, I’m not even going to think about dieting right now. I’m just going to eat whatever I want.’
‘You’re stretching your clothes! But after the first of the year you’re ready for a diet.’
The Jolene hitmaker – who is married to Carl Dean – goes ‘all out’ for Christmas with her extended family.

The 78-year-old singer enjoys spending the holidays with her loved ones and even though they spend most of December partying, she’s ready to stop throwing up by the end of the period.
She said: ‘I’m going all out for Christmas. My family calls me Grandma Claus, Dolly Claus or Gigi Claus, it just depends on the different generations.
‘I’ve been doing that since I had younger brothers and sisters.
“They have kids now and now their kids have kids, so I’ve been working on it for years. Christmas is something big for us.
‘We all sing Christmas carols around the piano – all the traditional ones like ‘O Little Town of Bethlehem’ and ‘Silent Night’
“But then we have to have ‘Rudolph’ and all the fun stuff, ‘Santa Claus is coming to town,’ all that.”
And as for their Christmas meal, Dolly will be serving something for everyone on December 25, with the food accompanied by her own range of wines.
She said, “We have turkey and ham, black-eyed peas and cornbread dressing, and then we have lots of mashed potatoes, coleslaw and things like that.
‘My wine is great because it goes with different things.

‘And if you like good food and good wine, then I think it all goes together, just like fashion.
“We really love having lots of fun things to do during the holidays.”
This comes after she said she was warned that her “cheap” appearance would prevent her from being taken seriously as a singer/songwriter.
Legend has no regrets about always choosing to be herself because she knew that even if people were put off by her appearance, her music was strong enough to win people over.
She told Grazia magazine: “In my early days, so many people said, ‘Dolly, no one will ever take you seriously as a songwriter, the way you dress, you have to tame it.’ You don’t need all the makeup, it makes you look cheap. You don’t need all that hair.’

“But I said, ‘If my songs are good enough, eventually people will hear my songs.’ In the meantime, I need to have fun for myself.
‘I’m going to write good songs, I’m going to sing good songs, I’m going to perform and I’m going to be myself.’
“I’ve been myself all my life and so far I’m proud of it.”
The ‘Jolene’ hitmaker doesn’t care what other people think about her clothes as long as she feels comfortable.
She said: ‘I’m more of an eyesore than an icon in some of the things I wear.
‘I like to feel confident in my clothes. Even if they weren’t fashionable, even if they were flashy or cheap or whatever.
‘If I felt like it suited me, then I felt comfortable in it. And when I feel comfortable, other people feel comfortable with me too.”
