The owners of a dog trapped in a cave for two days feared they would never see their beloved staff again before a miraculous rescue brought the pet out safely.

Jax, a five-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier, was pulled from a cave on the central New South Wales coast on Monday after falling through a narrow crevice in the rocks while wandering with his owners on a Wyong Creek property on Saturday.

Jax’s owner, Deborah May, expressed her delight that she had prepared to never see the beloved pet again.

Jax, the staff member, emerges safely from the cave where the dog was trapped for two days.

“We are very relieved to have him back,” he told Daily Mail Australia.

The video shows rescuers exclaiming in triumph ‘We’ve got him’ as an exhausted but uninjured Jax appears from the opening around noon on Monday.

“He’s happy, he’s wagging his tail,” one person observed as Jax meekly pushed through the group.

After Jax surprisingly declined an offered bowl of water, one of the rescuers suggested that he “just wants a hug.”

Jax’s owner, Deborah May, made a desperate plea for help in rescuing the dog on Saturday and was overwhelmed with the response she received.

Some volunteers even had to turn them away because there were already enough helpers working with the Central Coast Volunteer Rescue and New South Wales Cave Rescue teams.

Rescuers were encouraged to hear Jax continue to bark and whimper as they tried to open an opening in the cave.

A subdued Jax appeared to be in relatively good health after the two-day ordeal of being trapped under rocks.

Rescuers received hope when Jax barked and howled in response to his owner’s cues.

However, with Jax remaining trapped, Mrs. May resigned herself to the worst case scenario.

“We thought we’d say goodbye to him last night,” Ms May told Daily Mail Australia after the rescue.

“We were devastated thinking that no one would be able to get him out.”

Jax’s owners made desperate pleas to the NSW Central Coast community to help rescue Jax and were overwhelmed with offers.

Mrs. May says that Jax has come out of the ordeal okay, but is exhausted and catching up on some much-needed sleep.

Many in the community became engrossed in the rescue effort.

When Ms May requested jackhammers and chainsaws to help clear the cave entrance, she was inundated with offers.

“We would like to sincerely thank everyone for their support in helping us rescue our child,” Ms. May posted on Facebook.

After being given the nod by RSPCA veterans, Jax got a much-needed rest.

“He has been bathed and is exhausted and sleeping right now,” May posted on Facebook.
