Dog trainer reveals the five breeds he would never own – including a very popular type of pooch

A professional dog trainer has warned pet owners about the five breeds he would never consider owning.

Elijah Boateng, 24, who lives in Sydney and worked at Apex Dog Training for four years, uploaded a video discussing the worst dogs to own.

Some breeds were too “wild” and others were simply too “boring” to warrant the problems that training them could bring, he explained.

Obvious choices such as huskies and pugs were on the list alongside cavoodles, greyhounds and Maremma sheepdogs.

Elijah Boateng, 24, who lives in Sydney and worked at Apex Dog Training for four years, has listed the top five dog breeds he would never own as a trainer

Huskies

To start the list, Mr Boateng focused on huskies, which he found to be 'a pretty stubborn dog'.

“I don't like the temperament of them, they feel to me like they should still be in the wild rather than in people's homes,” he said.

Elaborating on his point, Mr Boateng said that although huskies can be tamed, they are one of the most dominant breeds and will often whine when on a leash.

Maremma sheepdog

The Maremma Sheepdog followed the Husky as the second worst breed to own, as they are 'very serious dogs' that are 'not fun to train'.

“When you train them, it feels like you're forcing them to do things rather than working with them,” Mr Boateng said.

Pugs

Pugs came third because of their infamous breathing problems and the fact that they are 'very stupid'.

“I don't like how they look, I don't even like what they represent,” he said.

Mr Boateng said he could not justify owning a dog that required surgery to survive and that he wanted a dog that could “survive on its own”.

Cavoodles

Controversially, Mr Boateng called the extremely popular cavoodle a breed he would never consider owning, despite it being low maintenance.

“To me, these dogs are a little bit anxious and a little bit annoying,” he said in the video.

While praising the breed for being manageable, Mr Boateng said he just wanted a dog he could train well and that cavoodles' fearfulness ruled them out.

Greyhounds

The 'boring' breed: Greyhounds turned out to be great for the lifestyle, 'but not for someone who enjoys training'.

“Greyhounds are great… but they're not the kind of dog you want to train and do things with,” he said.

Reactions to the video were mixed, with many viewers coming to the defense of their dog breeds on Mr Boateng's list.

“As a husky owner, I knew the husky would be on this list. They're not for everyone, but the breed is quite misunderstood until you own one,” one woman wrote.

Mr Boateng simply dismissed greyhounds as too 'boring' to train, while admitting he finds the breed 'amazing' in other ways too.

Another woman wrote: 'My greyhound learned to sit, stay and paw in five minutes! He's only two months old, I can't wait to teach him more.'

“Pugs are honestly the best breed of dog. Love their personalities. You just have to make sure you come from a good breeder or rescue organization,” a third person noted.

As for the best breeds to own, Mr Boateng said working dogs such as kelpies, golden retrievers and German shepherds topped that list.
