World Series celebrations descended into chaos early Thursday morning in Los Angeles, with stores looted by gangs and fireworks thrown at police in the streets.

The LAPD shared a video of people running from Nike stores to steal boxes as a bus burned near Dodger Stadium. No one was believed to be injured.

Police said arrests had been made but did not immediately reveal how many people had been arrested.

The LAPD issued a dispersal order that night, saying on social media that a hostile crowd was throwing fireworks and other objects at police.

“Leave the area immediately and follow all officer commands,” the LAPD wrote on X. “Several projectiles are being thrown at LAPD officers in the area of ​​Olympic & Grand.

The shocking photos even appeared to show some looters playing basketball in a vandalized Nike store as the festivities turned ugly.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass had said earlier in the day that police were prepared for the festivities to turn ugly if the Dodgers won the World Series in New York.

“LAPD is currently on tactical alert and has activated a strategic plan to protect communities and businesses,” she said.

The shocking scenes erupted in LA after the Dodgers fought back from a 5-0 deficit in Game 5 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium to earn a 4-1 victory.

The festivities continue later this week in Los Angeles. The Dodgers have two events scheduled for Friday to celebrate winning their eighth World Series title.

The team starts the celebration with a parade downtown.

It starts mid-morning in the Gloria Molina Grand Park in front of City Hall, with Mayor Bass in attendance.

The route continues on a 45-minute route that culminates at the intersection of 5th Street and Flower Street, with the Dodgers traveling on double-decker buses.

The festivities at Dodger Stadium begin shortly after noon. The parade will be shown on the stadium’s video boards prior to the team’s arrival.

The team said Wednesday that fans will not be able to attend both events due to logistics, traffic and timing.

For much of Wednesday’s game, it looked like the Yankees would keep the series alive with a second straight victory.

Yankees captain Aaron Judge returned to form with a home run on the first pitch he faced and Jazz Chisholm followed suit. Giancarlo Stanton then also homered as the Yankees raced to a 5-0 lead.
