Junior doctors from West Bengal on Saturday evening said they would resume complete ‘stop work’ in medical colleges across the state after the hearing of the RG Kar case in the Supreme Court on Monday.

Their decision was taken after three doctors and three nurses were attacked following the death of a patient at the College of Medicine and Sagore Dutta Hospital near Kolkata on Friday evening.

The medics alleged that the attack on Sagore Dutta Hospital has shown that the state government has “totally failed” in fulfilling their promises to provide them security.

“We are giving the state some time and want to hear their comments on our safety at the Supreme Court on Monday. After that, we will completely stop operations in all hospitals in Bengal from 5 pm,” said one of the young doctors.

Junior doctors partially resumed their duties at various government-run hospitals in West Bengal on September 21 after a gap of 42 days. They stopped work in protest against the rape and murder of an on-duty woman doctor of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
