Doctor issues stark warning about the disastrous effects watching sports can have on your appearance

  • Board-certified skin expert Dr. Muneeb Shah talked about the effects of sports
  • He said watching football can cause wrinkles and pimples on your face
  • The professional said it’s because of the extreme emotions you feel during a game

A dermatologist has issued a shocking warning to football fanatics who spend their Sundays in front of the TV.

While an NFL game gets your heart rate pumping and brings you and your friends together, it can have damaging effects on your skin.

A recent one Neutrogena study revealed that 53 percent of Generation Z are more stressed watching football than any other sport.

And according to Dr. Muneeb Shah — a certified skin expert from Florida who often gives medical advice on his social media accounts, where he has more than 18.1 million followers — the extreme emotions that come with tuning in to the sport can cause long-lasting wrinkles on your face.

During a conversation with the New York Posthe warned of the dangers of a ‘fanxiety face’.

He explained, “If you’re watching the game on TV or in person and you’re really focused, you’ll pinch your face a little bit and hold it like that.

‘And I always joke. Remember how your mother used to say, “If you keep making that face, it’s going to stick like that?”

‘There’s truth to that in actual dermatology, and that’s why Botox has become so popular.

“So that’s what happens with the fanxie: You’re really focused, or you’re squinting, or you’re worried, and you get a furrowed brow.

‘You’re going to let those eleven lines form, you’re going to let those horizontal lines form. And in the end, if you do that often enough, it will stick like that.’

In addition to wrinkles, the health professional explained that the stress of a football match can cause your cortisol levels to rise.

And the increased stress levels can cause your skin to break out into a slew of pimples.

“It can make your acne worse by acting on your sebaceous glands and increasing oil production,” he continued.

‘It can make acne worse, but it can also damage or reduce your collagen production.

‘So two things happen in times of stress. You’re squeezing your face, so you get those etched lines, but you also lose that collagen support and that elastin support that makes your skin bounce back after you pinch your face.”

“So it has a double effect,” he told the outlet.

The doctor recommended using sunscreen daily to protect your skin from wrinkles.

“Sun protection is very important to protect your collagen and elastin,” he added.

Dr. Muneeb also explained that both men and women can deal with this problem.

“Both men and women will be affected by this problem equally, and the treatments will be much the same,” he said.
