Doctor reveals the hottest new sex kinks for 2025

For those with New Year’s resolutions to spice up their lives, a sex expert has revealed the kinkiest new bedroom trends for 2025.

Dr. Jessica O’Reilly, a sexologist and relationship expert, presents five “new approaches” to sex that she promises will lead to a more satisfying experience between the sheets.

To increase excitement and pleasure, Dr. O’Reilly to try “multisensory integration,” which involves stimulating sight, sound, touch, taste and smell during sex.

This, she says, will create “richer and more fulfilling experiences.”

In addition to her other top tips, Dr. O’Reilly people to incorporate adventurous positions, music and even erotic art to boost their sex lives.

She wrote for Astro Glide: “As we approach 2025, New Year’s resolutions are starting to take center stage. Goals often relate to fitness, nutrition, finances, travel and daily practices, with health and self-improvement at the top of the list of planned commitments.

‘Relationships and sex may not claim the top spot among New Year’s resolutions, despite the fact that prioritizing intimacy, pleasure and connection can be just as transformative.

‘The best sex of your life is of course not just about the physical act itself, but is intertwined with emotional connection, exploring desires, cultivating self-confidence and embracing curiosity and playfulness.’

Dr. Jessica O’Reilly, who lives in Toronto, recommends trying “multisensory integration,” which involves stimulating sight, sound, touch, taste and smell during sex

Estimates suggest that nearly 50 percent of marriages end in divorce, and that sexual satisfaction – or rather dissatisfaction – is a major motivator for quitting, so keeping things interesting in the bedroom could save the marriage.

Ignite the senses

To keep it spicy, Dr. O’Reilly first applies visual stimulation. She suggests using “ambient lighting such as dimmable lamps, colored light bulbs, or candles to create a visually appealing environment.”

For an even bolder approach, she says, you can also consider “putting up erotic art or playing sexy videos in the background” while you’re intimate with a partner.

Then Dr. orders O’Reilly recommends ‘aural enhancement’, where writing that sound can be exciting.

She advises creating a music playlist of songs that “move you.”

To ignite a little more passion, she adds, “You can choose rhythms that guide your hips or symphonies that create crescendos of emotion.

‘Use whispered affirmations and erotic stories to set the mood.’

Next, Dr. O’Reilly explores how to go beyond just skin-to-skin contact with a range of different objects, from textured bed linen to silky lingerie.

The relationship expert explains: ‘Introduce varied textures through bedding, clothing and accessories.

‘Silk sheets, velvet pillows or textured blindfolds and cuffs can provide new sensations.

‘Integrate temperature play with heated or cooled objects to stimulate the nerve endings.’

To ‘play with cooling sensations all over the body’ is Dr. O’Reilly about keeping lube in the refrigerator before an appointment.

When it comes to stimulating your sense of smell, her suggestions include scented candles, essential oils and incense sticks.

And when it comes to which scent to choose, she says vanilla, jasmine, peppermint and sandalwood are associated with increased arousal.

Finally, when it comes to incorporating taste into sex, she suggests incorporating flavored lubes, edible body paints, and aphrodisiac foods like oysters, chocolates, and strawberries into your routine.

And according to Dr. O’Reilly, one bedroom tool is essential: lubricant, which can be used for “sensory mapping.”

She explains: ‘Lubricant can be more than just a practical tool – it’s an invitation to explore your partner’s body in new and exciting ways through pleasure mapping.

‘This practice involves discovering parts of the body that provide the most pleasure when touched, kissed or stimulated.

‘By adding a few drops of lubricant you can enhance sensations and turn even familiar places into sources of unexpected pleasure.’

She suggests starting by applying a small amount of lube to different parts of your partner’s body, such as the neck, inner arms, lower back, or thighs.

Then you can continue by “gently exploring each area with your hands, lips, or even a makeup brush, while observing their reactions.”

To make the process “more playful and exploratory,” Dr. O’Reilly says you can invite your partner to close their eyes so he or she can “tune into the experience.”

As for the benefits of ‘sensory mapping’, she concludes: ‘It’s more than just physical: it’s a way to deepen intimacy, understanding and connection.

‘By combining touch with attentive listening to your partner’s responses, you create a shared journey of discovery, celebrate new paths to pleasure and strengthen your bond.’

Eliminate oral sex

Two more sex tips from Dr. O’Reilly for 2025 are about different methods of oral sex.

Her first technique, called “the joystick,” involves the receiver using the hands on the back of the giver’s head to move them around “like a joystick, adjusting the pace, rhythm and intensity to suit their needs.”

To further increase intimacy, Dr. O’Reilly recommends maintaining eye contact whenever possible and having both parties use “stimulating verbal affirmations.”

Your browser does not support iframes.

Different sounds or words, she says, allow the recipient to “convey enthusiasm,” while they can be used by the server to “enhance their willingness to give pleasure.”

Dr. O’Reilly predicts that the other form of oral sex that will be popular in 2025 is “irrumatio.”

She explains that this is a variation where the recipient takes the lead and “guides the movement as the penis enters the partner’s mouth at the pace and depth he prefers.”

Because this puts the recipient in control, she warns, as with any intimate activity, “open communication about desires, boundaries and boundaries is essential before anything is done.”

In scenarios where verbal safe words may not be feasible, she recommends establishing nonverbal cues in advance, such as snapping your fingers or raising a hand.

Go to the edge of pleasure

The latest top kink from Dr. O’Reilly for the New Year is a sexual technique called “edge.”

Edging is the practice of stimulating yourself or your partner to the point of climax, but stopping just before reaching orgasm, resulting in greater sexual pleasure.

In addition to the feeling of “localized intensity,” Dr. O’Reilly says this technique – which can be repeated several times – produces a “wave of pleasure throughout the body through long-lasting stimulation.”

She adds, “In addition to the more intense physical sensations, the emotional overwhelm of edging can take the pleasure and connection to new heights.

‘For couples, edging promotes communication, trust and intimacy by encouraging mutual exploration and anticipation. It can also enable longer states of arousal to heighten desire and deepen emotional vulnerability.”
