The dead baby’s family say the girl was alive when she emerged and that after the traumatic incident, the hospital tried to pressure them to sign documents that would cover up what happened.
The incident on May 1 is said to have taken place at the Hospital das Clinicas da UFMG, in the Santa Efigenia neighborhood of Belo Horizonte.
Ranielly Coelho Santos, the baby’s mother, filed a police complaint two days after her child’s failed delivery.
Ms. Santos, who already has a nine-year-old daughter, was hospitalized on April 24, 28 weeks into her pregnancy, and went into labor seven days later.

During the birth, the midwife, who has not been named, reportedly called the girl’s father to closely monitor the procedure.
The father says he even saw his daughter blink and her mouth move, which he said was proof that the girl was alive.
However, in a tragic turn of events, according to the family’s report to police, the doctor applied pressure to the mother’s abdomen while simultaneously attempting to quickly remove the baby’s body and “cut the child’s head off.” Pull’.
The police report also says that the family from Ribeirao das Neves, a municipality on the outskirts of Belo Horizonte, were later approached by a social worker at the hospital who said the facility would cover all the costs of the baby’s burial.
However, the offer was only valid if they agreed to sign documents stating that “the autopsy had already been performed at the hospital,” that “the child’s body had already been examined,” and that “the body would not be forwarded to the Legal Medical Institute (IML)’ for further analysis.
The parents refused to sign the paperwork and later filed a complaint with the police, after which the baby’s remains were examined at the IML, according to the family’s lawyer, Jennifer Valente.
The hospital declined to comment to local media and the result of the autopsy has not been made public. The police investigation is ongoing.
The baby’s body will be released to its parents today for burial by the devastated family.
MailOnline has independently contacted the hospital for comment.
