Richard Keys has been criticized by Arsenal fans after expressing frustration with Mikel Arteta often going outside his technical field.
BeIN Sports presenter Keys was furious on Sunday over Arteta’s actions during Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Keys took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the situation.
Richard Keys criticized Mikel Arteta for going outside his technical field against Chelsea
Keys called on the Premier League to do ‘something’ about the situation, posting a photo of Arteta outside his tech room and noting that Chelsea boss Graham Potter was following the rules by staying in his box.
Keys wrote: ‘Why is this allowed every week @FAPGMOL? Arteta has been jumping up and down the entire match – way beyond his tech space. Potter is in his & 4th looks. Do something about this man.’
One Twitter user described Keys’ focus on the issue as “weird.”
They wrote: ‘Of all the problems in football and you focus on this? Foreign.’
Another added that Arsenal live ‘rent-free’ in Keys’ head.
They wrote: ‘Arteta and Arsenal live rent-free in your head Keys’.
Keys noted that Chelsea boss Graham Potter stayed in his tech room the entire time
Another Twitter user added: ‘Make sure you remind them that he also celebrates after a win, doesn’t wear a jacket when it rains and that he ‘really annoys you too, that should cover it up’.
Another Twitter user said Keys doesn’t know what to do once the World Cup has started because he can’t criticize Arsenal.
They wrote: ‘I’m worried about you Richard during the World Cup. You have six weeks free from arsenal obsession. I hope you’re well’.
This isn’t Keys’s first time talking about this issue.
In September he said: ‘Why is Arteta allowed to play the game on the sidelines? Again today – also for the 4th official. Does he have a special exemption?’ In April he said: ‘And why is this annoying man allowed to spend 90 minutes outside his tech room? Can’t the fourth (official) see this?’.
Earlier in the season, Keys suggested that Arsenal were celebrating too much when they beat Fulham
Keys has previously accused Arteta and his team of celebrating too much after a 2-1 win at home to Fulham in August.
Keys said on beIN Sports: “I understand that Arsenal fans are celebrating the way they did. I had the feeling that the coach and his players were over-celebrating a 2-1 win over Fulham.
“I think this kind of reaction to what happened yesterday from Arteta and co tells me how far they’ve fallen.
“Arsene Wenger would have cried out of the arena if his team had taken a 2-1 win with basically an own goal that was way off target until it got a deflection, and a present from Bernd Leno.
