The Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) experienced technical issues for nearly three hours Thursday due to an outage at a third-party vendor.

The American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA), which provides software to the DMV, experienced a “loss in cloud connectivity,” a spokesperson told DailyMail.com.

The outage halted license-related transactions from 9:50 AM to 12:30 PM ET.

Many Americans shared their frustration, some of whom were parents who took their children for driving lessons, only to be sent home empty-handed.

“During the outage, there was no ability to process messages that support driver license and motor vehicle title transactions,” the spokesperson said.

“As a result, a number of motoring agencies were unable to issue driver’s licenses and vehicle titles during the outage.

“AAMVA is working internally and with our cloud providers to determine the cause of the outage.”

The DMV is a state-level government agency because driving privileges are granted by the state government.

Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias made the first announcement about the outage, prompting responses from other states that issued notices to locals or posted on Elon Musk’s X.

New York State wrote: “We are aware of ongoing issues impacting transactions in our offices and online, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

‘We are working hard to get everything up and running again and will let you know when that is the case.’

A similar post on Facebook was shared by an Alabama mother whose daughter had just turned 16 and passed her driving test.

However, the teenager was unable to obtain the official card and paperwork as systems went down.
