DJI announces that the launch date for its rumored Hero 13 Black rival, the Osmo Action 5 Pro, is coming soon
DJI has posted a teaser on X (formerly Twitter) featuring some epic action footage and ending with βA Pro Rises,β along with a date for the new product to be announced. Itβs scheduled for September 19 at 9am EST (6am PT / 2pm BST).
Most DJI rumors point to the new product being the Osmo Action 5 Pro, which, according to leaked specs, appears to be a promising GoPro Hero 13 Black rival for the title of best action camera. With the pro-focused angle of the teaser, those leaks are looking increasingly believable.
Previous rumors have pointed to a price increase for the Osmo Action 4 for good reasons, such as onboard memory and possibly more that we don’t know about yet, likely having to do with the “Pro” moniker.
It would be a first for DJI to name one of its action cams ‘Pro’. Many DJI fans are therefore very curious about the next model in the line of Osmo Action Cams.
DJI’s official teaser was quickly followed by a leaked Osmo Action 5 photo from the ever-active DJI leaker @Quadro_News on the X, plus some specs of the action cam, which seem to confirm that it can shoot 40MP photos. This is a huge jump in resolution over the 10MP photos of the Osmo Action 4.
The leak also reveals that battery life has been improved, that the phones will have dual OLED displays and that stabilization is better, but these are just rumors.

The action is getting more intense
After GoPro launched the Hero 13 Black earlier this month, DJIβs rumored action camera had its launch date confirmed, and a successor to the Insta360 Ace Pro, the Ace Pro 2, was reportedly in the works, the action has really ramped up, and Iβm not talking about overheating cameras.
GoPro surprised us with its HB series of lenses and filters announced alongside the Hero 13 Black, taking action cameras down an exciting new path. Rumors of the Osmo Action 5 Pro suggest it could double down on DJIβs industry-leading low-light performance and pro-level features, while the Insta360 is said to be taking the AI ββand high-resolution 8K video route.
That’s potentially three flagship action cams vying for the top spot, each with its own take on the format. These cameras offer some decent options for any serious action fan.
