DJ Randall has died at the age of 54, his representatives have confirmed.

The drum & bass DJ, known as the ‘godfather of breakbeat’, rose to fame in the 90s alongside his British DJ partners Fabio and Grooverider.

No official cause of death has yet been determined.

DJ Randall, whose real name was Randall McNeil, was a well-known voice on radio stations such as Rave FM and Rinse FM.

He first encountered acid house at the Notting Hill carnival in 1987 and quickly developed his own unique sound.

Randall and Cool Hand Flex founded the record label Mac2 Recordings in 1996 and he was also a regular at The Blue Note Club with musicians such as Goldie and DJ Storm.

DJ Fresh wrote on X: ‘RIP Randall You were such a huge influence on me and my friends. And I was lucky enough to work with you and be around you.

‘You inspired a generation of kids to play Drum & Bass when it was still called Jungle and you inspired the people who inspired me. Rest in peace my friend, you will live on in our hearts and our music.’
