Disturbing alleged reason why asylum seeker Emran Dad – freed into the community by the High Court – was arrested… as bizarre TikTok surfaces

A convicted pedophile released from immigration detention under a High Court ruling had spent months grooming a 15-year-old girl behind bars.

Emran Dad, 33, was refused bail on Thursday because he posed an unacceptable risk to the community.

The vicious child sex predator was allowed back on the streets last month by a Supreme Court ruling that released asylum seekers from immigration detention centers.

Dad appeared in the Dandenong Magistrates' Court, in Melbourne's south-east, wearing white slippers for his contested bail application.

Just days after his release on November 11, he was charged with failing to comply with his reporting obligations as a registered sex offender, while also being charged with trespassing.

Alleged breaches included dad returning to social media platforms Instagram, Bigo and TikTok, where he posted a bizarre video of himself unwrapping a pair of large wrap-around sunglasses.

But the court heard that Australian Federal Police had far more serious concerns about his use of social media to contact teenage girls.

Detective Inspector Daniel Jacobi said searches of Dad's phones revealed he had been in regular contact with a 15-year-old girl since September this year while still in immigration detention.

Using social media such as 'beautiful.red.xr6', Dad had a legion of young followers.

“He is not charged with this crime, but the nature of the correspondence with a girl identifying herself as a 15-year-old is concerning,” he said.

“From another perspective, it could be the basis for other crimes.”

Mr Burns said he could not grant Dad bail given his history of child sexual abuse and recent interactions with teenagers.

“Given the nature of his priors, he is communicating with a 15-year-old in a sexually charged manner. He has three priors for sexual penetration with a child under 16,” he said.

The court heard dad had a horrific history of child abuse dating back to 2011, just four years after he came to Australia from Afghanistan.

Other offenses included violent assaults, breaching intervention orders and drug possession.

The court heard that father believed it was legal to have sex with minors, as men do in his home country.

When he was arrested in 2012 after not only having sex with a child but also pimping one out, Dad spoke about his behavior as if he had done nothing wrong.

“The suspect stated he had no one else to have sex with and believed it was legal to have sex with women under the age of 16 as this was the law in his home country of Afghanistan,” Detective Senior Constable Jacobi said.

In arguing for Dad's release, his lawyer Karen Sheridan put his brother Mohammad Dad on the witness stand in the hope that he could convince the magistrate to release his brother.

Mr Dad said his brother could work at his car wash business, Masters Hand Car Wash & Detailing, in Dandenong.

He was so committed to his brother's release that Mr Dad said he would quit his business to 'shadow' his brother to ensure he did not commit further crimes.

My father was taken into custody and will appear in court again next month.

Dad, who is from , is alleged to have run a prostitution ring targeting underage girls in state care and was jailed in 2012 for having sex with a 13-year-old girl in exchange for cigarettes.
