Distressed Michael Barrymore, 71, raises concern over ‘car crash’ in This Morning interview as he offends his words

Michael Barrymore caused concern over his appearance on This Morning on Thursday, as he double-tongued his words and spoke about the on-screen presenters.

The TV star, 71, kicked off the gig by proclaiming he didn’t know who the hosts Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle were, saying: ‘I thought it was Alison and the other one, who are you two? ‘, seemingly referring to Dermot O’ Leary.

Viewers flooded Twitter to comment on the “car crash” interview, in which he also mocked Craig’s Irish accent and caused Josie to berate him for speaking while trying to preface the interview.

Michael, who recently claimed to be the ‘busiest and happiest’ he’d ever been, is making his way through the promotion with his comeback as a TikTok star and successful theater director after winning praise for new West End show Laurel and Chaplin.

Despite his apparent glee over his career moves, his latest TV appearance has left tongues wagging, 22 years after his glittering showbiz career ended following Stuart Lubbock’s death in 2001 following a party at his Essex home.

Michael wore an utterly casual crinkled salmon top for his appearance on the show where he chatted with Josie and Craig, two of the carousel of presenters who have come in since Phillip Schofield’s scandalous departure.

At the beginning of the chat, Michael said in his shocking comment about the hosts, “I thought it was Alison and the other one, who are you two? Who are they? I know the names of all the cameramen, but I don’t know you two.’

He then began mocking Craig’s accent, to which Josie jokingly snapped, “Now it’s my turn!”, leading to a stunned face from Michael.

Twitter was quickly flooded with comments about the interview, with fans writing, “Michael Barrymore what a nightmare and horrible section…

“This interview with Michael Barrymore is horrific…Michael Barrymore on the show is car crash TV…Michael Barrymore unfortunately doesn’t come across very well. Really hard to understand, his words obscuring and repeatedly deviating…

However, some were cheering for the veteran star, with one fan writing, “Apparently Michael Barrymore was on This Morning today. It’s about time he got back on TV. He has more talent than 99% of the people on TV put together…

Late last month, Michael said The daily star that despite the ‘sh**ty bits’ that had happened in his life, he had never lost his passion for performing.

Saying, “I can’t tell you how happy I am right now. I’m the busiest I’ve ever been and I’m the happiest I’ve ever been.”

“I’m also probably the strongest I’ve been. I walk a lot, I eat well and I do what I like. I’m 71 and I feel fitter than I did when I was 40 when I was drinking and stuff,’

Michael is co-directing the new production ‘Laurel & Chaplin – The Feud’ at London’s Cambridge Theater about the rivalry between two of the world’s greatest entertainers, Stan Laurel and Charlie Chaplin.

It will tell the “true story of teenage best friends” whose relationship came to an end when silent movie star Chaplin rose to fame in Hollywood.
