Disneyland launches ‘Pride Nite’ amid Bob Iger’s ongoing war with Ron DeSantis in Florida

Disney doubles! California Park is launching its first ever ‘Pride Nite’ where Mickey and Minnie Mouse will be dressed in rainbow costumes – amid Bob Iger’s ongoing war with Ron DeSantis in Florida

  • Disneyland in California has announced a Pride Night in June
  • The announcement was made amid Disney CEO Bob Iger’s ongoing battle with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, dating back to the “Don’t Say Gay” law.
  • DeSantis on Monday threatened to build a state prison next to Disney World

Disneyland has announced “Pride Nite” celebrations as company CEO Bob Iger remains embroiled in a battle with Ron DeSantis dating back to the governor’s “Don’t Say Gay” law.

The announcement was shared on Twitter Monday afternoon, just after a press conference where DeSantis threatened to build a state prison next to Walt Disney World and Reedy Creek.

According to Disney, characters like Mickey and Minnie Mouse will wear special rainbow costumes at the event to celebrate all things LGBTQ.

The timing of the “Pride Nite” announcement didn’t seem coincidental to many on Twitter who shouted “The Mouse” and applauded the Republican politician for trolling.

“Ron brought a plastic spork to a nuclear weapons battle. The Mouse is an IP company that happens to run a theme park,” one person said on Twitter while quoting the announcement.

Another person online said, “DeSantis says he will build a prison to punish Disney. Disney announces pride night. Would have loved to see DeSantis’ face afterwards!’

Disney’s battle with Florida first began in 2022 when company officials publicly spoke out against the then-proposed “Don’t Say Gay” law.

Current law prohibits instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity for children in Florida schools through third grade.

Former CEO Bob Chapek responded to the bill, saying at the time that he called DeSantis to “express our disappointment and concern.”

In response, Florida Republicans dissolved the state’s special tax district.

Although the “Pride Nite” is being held on the other side of the country, Twitter users were not convinced that the announcement had nothing to do with the current controversy in Florida.

“This is Disney standing up to Florida’s radical governor,” actor Steven Pasquale wrote.

“The fireworks will be so big and so merry it will cover the coup Disney is launching in Tallahassee,” one person joked. “The last Ron Meatball will hear is ‘Oh Gawrsh’ before Goofy shows him the true meaning of Hush Puppy.”

Not all social media was so positive about Disney’s announcement.

Add Disney to the list of awakened companies to be boycotted. F**king pride night. Good Lord. Walt is rolling in his grave,” one angry Twitter user wrote.

“Why Disney won’t get my dollars anymore,” someone else wrote.

“I’m sure the weird Disney adults will love this,” commented one user.

The theme park’s “Pride Nite” celebrations in California will be held June 13 and June 15 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. and tickets cost $139.

The event – part of ‘Disneyland After Dark’ – will go on sale April 20.

A dance party featuring characters in “special attire” and other photo opportunities with “pride-themed backdrops” will be offered, Disneyland officials said.
