- Laura Reyes-Merino suffered injuries at the Humunga Kowabunga water slide
- She has now filed a $50,000 lawsuit against Walt Disney Parks
A 25-year-old woman who claims she was knocked unconscious and left bleeding from the mouth after taking a ride at the Typhoon Lagoon water park is suing Disney World for more than $50,000.
Laura Reyes-Merino had visited the park in Orlando, Florida, on May 11 and took the Humunga Kowabunga ride, the lawsuit said.
The high-octane rides feature an enclosed body slide set at a 60-degree angle and drop 200 feet downhill in the dark before being splashed with water.
Reyes-Marino alleged in the lawsuit filed last week in Orange County that she lost consciousness after being “struck in the side,” and when her fiancé found her, she was limp and bleeding from the mouth.
The complaint alleges that the woman’s family frantically asked for help from nearby counselors. They were told that they were not lifeguards and that they had to look for lifeguards.

When a lifeguard was finally located, they were unable to help or touch Merino-Reyes and called an ambulance as instructed.
“If defendant had had lifeguards at the end of the ride to watch and assist guests coming off the ride, plaintiff’s brain injury would not have occurred because she would not have drowned in the water and coughed up blood,” the indictment said.
It further stated that Typhoon Lagoon failed to keep the property safe and failed to warn her of dangers.

Disney faced another lawsuit last year when a woman who went to the park to celebrate her 30th birthday suffered a “sore wedgie” on the same ride as Reyes-Merino.
She filed a lawsuit, claiming that the impact of the slide caused her swimsuit to be “painfully pressed between her legs and water was forcibly squeezed into her.” Click on Orlando reported.
According to her lawsuit, she went to the hospital and suffered injuries, including severe lacerations, damage to her internal organs and a hernia.
