A Disney+ show has been canceled after just one series, leaving fans of the hit series devastated.

The streaming platform has made the choice to make more episodes of National Treasure: Edge of History, it said deadline.

National Treasure: Edge of History – released last December – is an American action-adventure television series developed for and released worldwide on Disney+.

The story follows Jess Valenzuela (Lisette Olivera), a 20-year-old dreamer, who explores to discover the mystery of her family history and, with the help of her friends, tries to recover a historically lost treasure.

It is based on, and a continuation of, the National Treasure film series.

The 10-part series stars Lisette and Catherine Zeta-Jones, with Justin Bartha reprising his roles from the films as a recurring character.

Harvey Keitel also appeared in the beginning when he reprized his movie role.

The beloved series is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and ABC Signature.

Fans were quick to respond when someone wrote, “For @DisneyPlus to cancel ‘National Treasure Edge of History’ after one season is an absolute joke!”

Another said, “I will never forgive @DisneyPlus for canceling National Treasure: Edge of History after it had such an epic first season. We deserve a season 2 with the full cast!”

A third wrote, “They canceled National Treasure: Edge of History! Why make such a good series and let it hang on a cliffhanger when you know it won’t be canceled until after one season. I’m so so annoyed.’

A fourth said: ‘NO!! NATIONAL TREASURE EDGE OF HISTORY WAS CANCELED WTF.”

The show was filmed primarily in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Santa Fe, New Mexico, and premiered on December 14, 2022.

Among the ten most-streamed programs in the US from its first week, it reached the top 5 in later weeks.

In early May 2020, Jerry Bruckheimer revealed in an interview with Collider that a National Treasure television series was in the works for Disney+.

He said at the time that the series would follow the same concept as the films with a younger cast.

The script for the pilot was completed, plotting for the story continued for the rest of the episodes, and in March 2021, Disney officially greenlit the series.

The title of the series was revealed in July 2022, ahead of the panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

In October 2021, Lisette Olivera, an LA-based actress, was cast in the lead role.

In January 2022, Zuri Reed, Jake Austin Walker, Antonio Cipriano, Jordan Rodrigues and Lyndon Smith were added to the cast, with Catherine Zeta-Jones joining the following month.

In April 2022, Justin Bartha joined the series as a recurring guest star to reprise his role from the films.

In July 2022, during San Diego Comic-Con, it was revealed that Harvey Keitel would also be reprising his role, as Peter Sadusky, the lead FBI agent from the first 2 films.
