The Simpsons will return to Disney Plus on October 2 with a new season. It will be the 35th season of the iconic animated comedy series, but despite being a lifelong fan, I really hope they stop.
New episodes of The Simpsons were revealed during Disney’s massive D23 announcement , where it was confirmed that nine major Star Wars, Marvel, and Pixar shows would soon be coming to the platform. The Fox show debuted in 1989 with a Christmas special (in bold) and won an Emmy Award (it was nominated for four more), and while it doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon, some fans like myself are starting to get Springfield fatigue, which is a real shame.
At X (formerly Twitter), one of the best streaming services, the following was written: “Let’s rock. season 35 of The Simpsons is coming October 2, and new exclusive episodes (of one of the best Disney Plus shows) are coming soon to Disney Plus.”

Exclusive episodes should be enticing and convince me to stay, but honestly, the news about another modern Simpsons episode gives me no feelings at all. The golden era (seasons 1-12, in my personal opinion) is long gone and honestly this family deserves a good rest. They had a good run, can we please put them to bed?
The Simpsons need to pack their bags
In my opinion, good shows know when they’re done. Some of my favorite sitcoms like The office And Parks and recreation are long gone, their stories have been told, and yet I still love rewatching them. Classic episodes never get old, whether it’s Threat Level Midnight (bless Michael Scarn) or Li’l Sebastian, they will be etched in my memory forever.
Honestly, The Simpsons that used to do. There are a plethora of quotes that I like to use on a daily basis, like calling currency “dollar box” after Bart vs. Australia, or laughing whenever I see the words “Max Power” thanks to Homer’s eccentric alter ego in Homer to the Max, both of which fall under my precious golden age of Simpsons episodes.
It pains me to say that I can’t think of a single modern episode that I would quote in this way. None of them make our list of the best Simpsons episodes. They’re mostly forgettable, and when I watch live TV and see that a network is airing a new episode instead of a classic, I feel disappointed. The Simpsons was at its peak in the 90s, and is not doing so well these days.
Season 35 of The Simpsons proves that it is possible to have too much of a good thing and eventually that good thing is watered down until it is barely recognizable. If it was canceled tomorrow I wouldn’t be sad, I have plenty of old episodes to rewatch.
