Disney fans fume over ‘obscene’ prices at brand new cake shop

Disney’s revamped pastry shop is opening with some ‘obscene’ new prices and fans are not happy.

The Cake Bake Shop on the famous BoardWalk in Disney World, Florida is set to open in the fall, but Disney fans are shocked by the menu prices.

“These prices are obscene,” one visitor said of the new menu on Reddit.

The menu, posted outside the sparkling white and gold bakery, shows prices starting at $22 per slice of cake — and that’s before tax and tip. Some are even dearer.

The Cake Bake restaurant closed in 2020 during the pandemic and will soon reopen as The Cake Bake Restaurant by Gwendolyn Rogers.

Gwendolyn Rogers’ Cake Bake Restaurant will open later this fall

The restaurant’s cake offerings include Gwendolyn’s Famous Earl’s Court Chocolate Cake, for $26 each; Oprah’s ‘O’ List Mint Chocolate Cake, $24 each; and Pumpkin Spice Cinnamon Roll cake for $22 each.

“That’s the price of a whole pie at Amorettes in Disney Springs!” another Reddit user said about the high slice prices.

“$8 for a Coke is shockingly insulting, even for Disney World…” a third agreed.

The new venture will also offer a tasty selection of cakes, French pastries, homemade fudge, chocolate truffles and cookies.

For older visitors there is also a varied champagne, wine and beer selection.

Gavin Doyle, creator of the Mickey Visit Disney World Crowd Calendar told DailyMail.com that the Cake Bake menu appeals to fans because its prices are significantly higher than the chain’s other locations in Broad Ripple Village and Carmel, Indiana, as well as other restaurants serving similar food in the park.

“There are plenty of food and beverage options where you can find cheaper but high-quality offerings, including at restaurants right next to this location at Disney’s BoardWalk,” Doyle said.

He also explained that the restaurant has been ‘coming soon’ for years, which leads to a lot of anticipation and speculation among visitors.

“The anticipation surrounding the location has put a huge spotlight on the new restaurant and menu because so many people have walked by and wondered what the new place will be.”

Many Disney fans on Reddit predicted that the restaurant won’t stay open for more than two years if prices remain this high.

“Have a feeling this place will be closed in about two years, especially once the novelty (if any) wears off,” one person wrote on the site.

“Looking forward to seeing what the next spot will be in this spot after it inevitably closes in 2026,” another agreed.

An exact date for Cake Bake’s opening has not yet been publicly announced.

DailyMail.com contacted Disney for comment.
