Disgusting discovery at McDonald’s is so bad customer throws out their meal: ‘Won’t be going there’

Stomach-turning images have emerged of a cockroach hovering over fries about to be served to customers at a NSW McDonald’s.

The video from inside the fast food venue in Broadmeadow, Newcastle, showed the distressed insect trying to escape under the heat lamp and salted chips.

That and other images obtained by newy.com.aualso revealed an ‘infestation’ of insects throughout the McDonald’s location.

Cockroaches were snapped to death on trays, dead on tiles and behind chairs in the seating area, while dozens of maggots were spotted around a dustpan.

One customer was so outraged that he threw away his meal after being shown the images.

“I couldn’t resist going back in, I’m already late and that video ruined my dinner,” the customer said.

A number of social media users also raised concerns about the cleanliness of the venue after the video was posted on Facebook.

“I don’t go there to buy food anymore,” one person wrote.

A second said pests would not be in the store if ‘pest control is done properly and cleaning is done properly’.

“Oh my god this is disgusting,” a third wrote.

“Wow, I definitely won’t be going to Maccas anymore, that sort of thing,” wrote a fourth.

Others were left petrified after dining at the site in recent days.

“WTF, the kids ate there last night,” a fifth wrote.

McDonald’s issued a statement shortly afterwards after expressing “disappointment” with the cleanliness of the location.

“This clearly does not meet McDonald’s strict food safety, quality and hygiene standards,” a spokesperson said.

‘We took immediate action at McDonald’s Broadmeadow, including a thorough professional pest inspection and installing additional pest control measures.

“We will continue to work closely with the restaurant to ensure our customers can have confidence in our commitment to food safety, quality and a great customer experience.”

It comes just months after a female McDonald’s worker was caught on camera drying a mop head under a chip heater.

The worker was filmed holding what appears to be a detachable microfibre mop head under a heat lamp, just inches from a box of fresh chips at a McDonald’s in Booval, a suburb of the city of Ipswich, 30km southwest of Brisbane.

Daily Mail Australia understands the staff member has been spoken to by management but will keep her job.

A video of the incident, first published by Facebook page Subtle Bogan Hints, quickly went viral online with many users making light of the situation.

“So that’s where the flavor comes from…” one joked.

Another said they “bet the mop head is hotter than the fries.”

‘The old McMop is back! Must be a limited time, get in while they’re hot,” another joked.

A McDonald’s spokesperson said the company takes food safety “extremely seriously” and follows strict cleaning and hygiene procedures in all restaurants.

“We have discussed this directly with the restaurant and have thoroughly trained all employees on McDonald’s sanitization, hygiene and food safety procedures,” they said.

“This was an isolated incident and we will continue to work with the restaurant to ensure this does not happen again.”
