Shocking footage has emerged of a group of feral dirt bike riders confronting police during a pleasure ride through busy suburban streets.

Officers were confronted by the group of 15 motorcyclists at Williams Landing in south-east Melbourne at 2pm on 29 July.

Dashcam footage from the highway patrol vehicle reportedly showed the thugs doing wheelies and riding the bikes on the road at high speeds.

Officers from the Westgate Police Division Highway Patrol confronted a group of feral motorcyclists on a busy road in south-east Melbourne

The riders passed the patrol car at an intersection before converging on a median after one of their group lost control of his bike and crashed into the curb.

In the video, officers can be seen assisting the rider who fell off his bike before being arrested.

He needed help after he got stuck between the bike and the berm.

However, his fellow riders continued to circle around the officers on their bicycles.

A rider got close enough to police on his bike to reportedly spray dirt and rocks from the median.

A visibly agitated cop warns the riders to stop their antics before he is seen speaking into a portable radio and calling for help.

Oncoming traffic on the road had to slow down to avoid a collision as the pack continued across the median.

Minutes later, the footage shows more Westgate Highway Patrol officers arriving at the scene.

Victoria Police said they are on the hunt for the other riders who were filmed carrying out the brutal act.

“Police arrested one person and during the arrest, the group of motorcyclists came back and circled the police, driving on the wrong side of the road,” a police spokesman said.

The group continued this activity for about two minutes while two officers apprehended the individual before driving away from the area.

Footage of the alleged incident, taken from the police vehicle, has been released in the hope that anyone with information on the identities of the drivers can report to police.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman confirmed that the young driver who was arrested was charged with several offences, including unregistered driving and driving without a licence.

Police would not provide further details because the driver is a minor.

Inspector Jane Horgan of the Westgate Police Division warned people riding dirt bikes on roads that they will be caught.

“Riding illegal dirt bikes around our streets and parks is not just harmless fun – the community and the police are rightfully fed up and we are taking action,” said Ms Horgan.

β€œFor those who think they can ride our streets in groups while engaging in ridiculous behavior on these bikes – rest assured we will find you, confiscate your bike and press charges if necessary.”

Westgate Police Highway Patrol said it is acting against motorists who drive dangerously on the road and cause damage.

The Corps recently received two new motorcycles funded by Wyndham City Council to respond to these incidents.
