Police are investigating after a rugby league grand final in South Australia erupted into an ugly brawl involving players and spectators.

The match between the Western District Warriors and the Eastern Eels had just finished at Mitchell Park last Sunday when the fight started – at first between the players and soon involving spectators, too.

A disturbing video from the event shows the crowd and players clashing and one player wearing a yellow and blue jersey throwing several punches at different individuals.

Players and spectators were both involved in the scuffle after the full-time whistle in the grand final match between the Western District Warriors and the Eastern Eels at Mitchell Park.

Daily Mail Australia does not imply that any of the players pictured in the above graphic were involved in Sunday’s incident at Mitchell Park.

The video footage shows groups of players holding a member of the public away from other teammates and lots of pushing and shoving.

Nine News reported that a 12-year-old boy had allegedly been chased by a man with a raised fist who attempted to punch him in the back of the head. The boy was allegedly left ‘shaken’ by the incident.

SA Police arrived on the scene after the final whistle at around 4.30pm and say the incident was over by the time they arrived.

Officer have confirmed that they are investigating the incident and have asked for anybody who was assaulted and hasn’t yet reported it, or witnessed the brawl, to contact them.

Video of the brawl has been shared on social media, generating mixed opinions among users.

‘Just feral goons that’s all,’ wrote one person.

‘Nice. Bring back the biff,’  replied another.

‘Sham. Shame. Shame,’ added a third.

Neither of the rugby league clubs involved in the melee have commented publicly, but the South Australia NRL judiciary is investigating.
