He allegedly left a clerk at Christy's Toy Box in Oklahoma City in a 'battered and bloody' state on Monday night
He was arrested early Tuesday morning and charged with assault and battery. He was released on his own initiative.
Dewitt, who served as a Pottawatomie County sheriff's commander, was suspended with pay as the sheriff's office conducted an internal investigation after the arrest.
'I called him and spoke to him briefly. I said, 'Hey, why don't you take a few days,'” Pottawatomie County Sheriff Mike Booth said in an interview with KFOR.
“I got a call from OCPD that they had arrested Commander Dewitt, there had been an altercation at a business in Oklahoma City,” Booth said.
A police report details the incident Monday evening at Christy's Toy Box in Oklahoma City.
Officer Dewitt visited the store with an unnamed woman just before the store closed around midnight, the report said.
The store clerk told police that Dewitt started arguing with the woman about whatever she wanted.
He allegedly raised his hands many times and acted as if he was about to backhand the woman.
He allegedly told the woman she didn't need a fake penis because it was “bigger than mine.”

When the store clerk intervened by asking Dewitt to calm down and leave the store, he reportedly responded, “F**k you, I'm a cop.”
The pair finally decided to buy a large battery-powered sex toy and headed to the counter. The victim said he asked if they needed a battery for the toy.
The victim claimed Dewitt then became angry and said the question should be asked before they tested the toy.
At the time, the clerk responded by saying it was a company policy and he could not change it.
The woman who was with Dewitt told officers that Dewitt asked, “What the hell are you saying to me, fat boy?”
The clerk responded, “Dude, get the fuck out of my face.”
Dewitt responded by standing behind the counter and furiously punching the worker in the face, the police report said.
After he was punched, the clerk asked Dewitt to leave and Dewitt began punching him several more times in the face and ribcage, the report said.
Dewitt also allegedly threw a clear bucket full of suction cups across the store and a two-layer container of mints before driving away in a Bentley.
Before leaving, he was hit in the back with a sex toy in a box.
He allegedly told the store clerk, “Call the damn police.” I am an officer of the law. You're not fucking attacking me. I can have you arrested, locked up in a place where you will never be released again.'
