Diogo Jota’s wife Rute Cardoso has fallen out with Premier League officials for ‘rigging’ Saturday’s match between Liverpool and Tottenham.

Cardoso was furious with referee Simon Hooper and the PGMOL for sending off Jota just 24 minutes after he came on against Spurs, who won a controversial encounter 2-1 thanks to Joel Matip’s own goal deep into stoppage time.

She was also annoyed by the red card for Curtis Jones and the fact that Liverpool were denied a clear goal after Luis Diaz was offside.

Cardoso took to social media to call out Hooper and the PGMOL for their decision-making on Saturday.

She shared a video of Jota’s first foul on Destiny Udogie with a clown emoji and the PGMOL’s statement with the words “fixed game” crossed out.

Jota received his first yellow card in the 68th minute of the match after tripping Udogie from behind while trying to prevent Spurs from countering.

However, in the replays, it appears as if Udogie managed to trip himself after feeling the pressure from the Portuguese forward – something Cardoso highlighted.

Nevertheless, the yellow card stood and Jota was forced to play on despite his objection to Hooper’s decision on the pitch.

But things went from bad to worse for Jota in the 69th minute of the match when he received a second yellow card.

The 26-year-old was dispossessed on the right by Udogie and tried to regain it by dangling his leg out.

However, the Liverpool star fired the Italian, forcing Hooper to reach for his pocket to draw a second yellow card.

Liverpool were also denied a clear goal after Diaz was ruled offside – something the PGMOL has not admitted was wrong.

A statement from the PGMOL said: ‘PGMOL can confirm the following official fixture changes for the remaining matches in round seven in the Premier League.

‘Darren England, VAR in the Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool match, and Dan Cook, AVAR in the same match, have been replaced for the Nottingham Forest v Brentford and Fulham v Chelsea matches today and tomorrow evening respectively.

‘Craig Pawson will now take on England’s duties as fourth official at the City Ground, while Eddie Smart will take over from Cook as assistant referee at Craven Cottage.’

While Liverpool responded with the following statement: ‘Liverpool Football Club acknowledges that PGMOL admitted their failures last night. It is clear that the correct application of the rules of the game has not taken place, which has undermined sporting integrity.

‘We fully accept the pressure under which match officials work, but this pressure must be alleviated and not exacerbated by the existence and implementation of VAR.

‘It is therefore unsatisfactory that sufficient time was not allowed to make the right decision and that no action was taken afterwards.

‘The fact that such shortcomings have already been categorized as ‘significant human error’ is also unacceptable. All outcomes should only be determined through evaluation and with full transparency.

‘This is critical for the reliability of future decision-making as it applies to all clubs whose learnings are used to make improvements to processes to ensure situations like this do not occur again.

“In the meantime, we will explore available options given the clear need for escalation and resolution.”
