Diogo Jota has taken to social media to express his disappointment that he will be excluded from the World Cup due to an injury.

The attacker was stretched to a stretcher in the closing minutes of Liverpool’s 1-0 home win against Manchester City and the resulting injury will force him out of the World Cup.

The 25-year-old tweeted: ‘After such a good night at Anfield mine ended in the worst way! At the last minute, one of my dreams collapsed.

“I will still be a supporter from outside, club and country, and fight to be back as soon as possible.”

Jota then signed his Tweet with the famous Liverpool catchphrase and the song ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.

Jota’s injury will be disappointing news for anyone involved with Liverpool and Portugal, as the versatile striker is a key player for both club and country.

The Portuguese international was instrumental in Liverpool’s recovery, winning against Manchester City and receiving heavy praise for his work on and off the ball throughout the match.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was the first to share the news about the seriousness of Jota’s injury during his press conference ahead of Liverpool’s game against West Ham.

“Jota will be out for a long time, we are talking about months,” said the German manager. “We’ll see – I don’t want to put a number on it because I hope there will be a positive moment in rehab, but it will be a long time.”

Klopp continued: “Jota will miss the World Cup, a really serious calf injury and we need to recover it. The process begins and that’s it. Very sad news for the boy, for us and for Portugal.’

Liverpool and Portugal fans are hoping Jota can get back into action as soon as possible in the new year.
