Diogo Jota appeared to score during Portugal’s dramatic 2-1 win against the Czech Republic on Tuesday night, but after heading the ball into the back of the net he was spotted rowing with Jindrich Stanek.

After a quiet first half, Lukas Provod broke the deadlock for the Czech Republic in the 62nd minute, but Roberto Martinez’s side were given a lifeline after Robin Hranac’s own goal leveled the score at 1-1.

The 27-year-old Jota, who came on for Rafael Leao in the 63rd minute, looked as if he had scored the winner for the 2016 European champions.

Joao Cancelo had hit the ball into the penalty area where Cristiano Ronaldo was waiting.

The Al-Nassr striker headed the ball into the right post but Jota, lurking on the edge of the six-yard box, was on hand to grab the rebound and head it into the back of the net.

Initially the Liverpool striker, who is already a father of two, drove off in elation at having scored an 87th minute winner, but he stopped and returned to take the ball out of the net in celebration .

Czech goalkeeper Stanek, meanwhile, appeared to stop the Portuguese forward from getting the ball, with Jota arriving before shouting at the former Everton academy goalkeeper.

As a whole group of players entered the goal mouth, it seemed as if the goalkeeper was pushed away from the ball, while Jota picked up the ball.

The Portuguese forward then ran off with the ball and tucked it under his jersey before sucking his thumb as if paying tribute to his unborn child.

His players gathered around him to celebrate the final goal, but VAR would soon spoil the party.

Referee Marco Guida would then cancel the goal after Ronaldo was found to be offside due to Cancelo’s first cross.

Jota cut a deflated figure as he walked back to the field after the decision was made.

The goal would have been his 15th for his country, with Jota having won 40 caps for Portugal.

Although Jota’s goal did not stand, Francisco Conceicao would score in the 92nd minute to seal a final victory for Martinez’s side, with the Porto striker producing a brilliant strike.

After rowing with the goalkeeper, Ronaldo then celebrated in front of Stanek after Conceicao’s late winner.
