Diners left stunned after restaurant added ‘live music’ to their bill – costing them $10 each
- A group of diners were baffled by a $10 “live music” charge on their receipt
- Four friends had the bill added to their check at the end of the UK meal
- A friend of one of the guests uploaded the receipt to Reddit, prompting a deluge of comments
A group of diners were baffled after being charged $10 each for live music to be played during their meal.
The four friends saw that the bill was automatically credited to their account at the end of the meal.
In a Reddit thread, one of the guests’ boyfriends uploaded a photo of the receipt showing a total of £32 charged – or $41.
He wrote, “GF and her friends were charged for live music at a restaurant. Is this something new? Never encountered this before.’
The receipt also included a 12.5 per cent service charge, bringing the total bill to £190.63. It works out to about $248.

The anonymous post did not specify where in the UK the restaurant was or what it was called.
It quickly garnered over 2,500 comments — and many other users were amused by the charge.
One of them wrote: “Imagine if they were deaf.”
Another said, “Yeah, if you’re going to charge, do it at the door.” I’d be furious if I saw this on my bill.’
A third wrote, “What if you didn’t even go there for live music and went for dinner and happened to have live music? Yes, I wouldn’t be happy about this.’
But many noted that it was simply a “cover charge” – a longstanding tradition of owners charging guests an entrance fee.
However, these are usually charged or at least advertised in advance.
