‘Digital condom’ is released for Gen Z to help prevent non-consensual recording during sex

Revenge porn – the sharing of someone else’s private, sexual photos or videos – is on the rise in Britain, with reports increasing by 106 percent between 2022 and 2023.

According to research from Refuge, one in fourteen adults in England and Wales have experienced threats to share their intimate images without their consent.

Now German sexual health brand BILLY BOY has teamed up with agency Innocean Berlin to invent a unique digital condom to prevent non-consensual recording during sex.

The CAMDOM app is ‘as easy to use as a regular condom’ and protects users from stealth recording of photos, audio and video by locking the camera and microphone of all devices present in the bedroom.

To do this, sexual partners place their phones together and swipe down on a virtual button to lock their phones while they do the deed.

If a user tries to get out of the lock prematurely and secretly documents the sexual encounter, an alarm will sound to warn others of the possible threat of non-consensual recording.

The button must be pressed simultaneously by everyone involved to unblock the camera and microphone.

The ‘digital condom for the digital generation’ was developed by Felipe Almida and can block as many devices as necessary.

Almeida said: “Nowadays, smartphones have become an extension of our bodies and we store a lot of sensitive data on them.”

“To protect you from non-consensual content recording, we created the first app that can easily block your camera and microphone via Bluetooth.”

“We wanted to take the next step and protect the digital generation from a threat that a normal condom cannot address, but a digital condom can: namely the leakage of non-consensual media during sex.”
