Hollywood actor and Wrexham AFC co-owner Rob McElhenney endeared himself to football fans everywhere on Monday by discreetly checking in with his beloved Philadelphia Eagles at the Emmy Awards.
As the Eagles took on the Buccaneers in Tampa in Monday’s Wild Card playoff game, McElhenney was pictured watching a pre-game show by his wife Kaitlin Olson during the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards.
“Who schedules the Emmys on the same night as the @eagles,” McElhenney asked on social media as he reposted the image. ‘#gobirds #FlyEaglesFly.’
The Philadelphia native is a diehard Eagles fan, but attended Monday’s awards ceremony because of his love for another team: Wrexham AFC
McElhenney received the Emmy for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program for his docuseries on the team, ‘Welcome To Wrexham’, which is fortunate considering his Eagles suffered a season-ending loss to the Bucs.

And the award comes at a big time for McElhenney and his co-owner, fellow actor Ryan Reynolds.
Wrexham recently defeated Shrewsbury to progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup.
During the match, Reynolds posted a photo of himself with Australian actor Hugh Jackman.
The photo was captioned: ‘Watching @WrexhamAFC in the @EmiratesFACup with inmate 24601.’
That last bit refers to when Jackman played Jean Valjean in the 2013 film adaptation of the musical Les Miserables.
Wrexham will now play Blackburn at Ewood Park on January 29.
