Die Hard star De’voreaux White FINALLY settles the debate on whether action-packed Bruce Willis favorite is REALLY a Christmas movie – and why plans to bring back his character Argyle were abandoned
Die Hard star De'voreaux White has finally put an end to the age-old debate over whether Bruce Willis' action flick is a Christmas movie.
The 58-year-old actor co-starred with Bruce's John McClane in the 1988 cult classic, playing the cop's fun-loving limousine driver Argyle.
Since the release of Die Hard over 25 years ago, there has been much debate about whether it should be considered a celebratory film or not.
While many argue that because the events of the film take place on Christmas Eve, it should be classified as a Christmas movie, due to its action-packed premise, others have vehemently refuted this.
It has long been debated whether Bruce Willis' hit film Die Hard is a Christmas movie
De'voreaux White, who played limousine driver Argyle, has finally put an end to the age-old debate
Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com, De'voreaux delivered his verdict, saying: 'I'm going to explain it to you. To be clear, it's a Christmas cult classic. Do not forget it!'
Although Die Hard fans can now safely label the film as a Christmas movie, De'voreaux admitted that the cast and crew never pitched the project as such.
'No, it wasn't [sold as a Christmas movie],' he said. “It was these terrorists who took over this building at Christmas, and a cop comes here to get back together with his wife and meet her at the Christmas party.”
After his sensational performance in Die Hard, the Argyle star eventually landed on television, starring in the sitcom series Head of the Class – although he was initially booked to reprise his role in Die Hard 2 and Die Hard 3.
He revealed, “The executives were bidding for me to be on these different shows, and so it was bing bing, bing, bing.
“But I was originally in the contract and booked for Die Hard one, two and or three because they loved my performance.”
He even revealed that Die Hard co-producer Joel Silver had already developed ideas about where his character Argyle would go, but negotiations didn't go according to plan.
“He would bring me my own writers and we would develop Argyle, who would be a rookie.”
There were plans for De'voreaux to reprise his role as Argyle in the sequel film, but this never materialized.
The film's sequel, Die Hard 2, was released in 1990, with Bruce reprising his character John
The film's sequel, Die Hard 2, was released in 1990, with Bruce reprising his character John.
The third film, Die Hard with a Vengeance, hit theaters five years later in 1995.
The fourth and fifth installments – Lie Free or Die Hard and A Good Day to Die Hard – were released in 2007 and 2013 respectively.
When he's not starring in television and film, De'voreaux works at a drug and alcohol treatment center, which he has done since 2009.
“I help people recover and that gives me so much joy,” he says enthusiastically. “I see kids come in and they're just devastated.
'I lost my mother on Christmas Day when I was nine.
“My job is to be the best son I can be today and be a man of integrity and help others because that's what she would want me to do.”
