Did you know that Daryl Braithwaite’s iconic hit Horses is a COVER? Original American singer now wants credit at EVERY SHOW – after Harry Styles performed the song at Sydney gig
Daryl Braithwaite’s iconic hit song Horses is one of Australia’s unofficial national anthems.
But few know that the song is actually a cover, and was originally performed by American singer Rickie Lee Jones, who also wrote the song.
Horses first appeared on Jones’ 1989 album Flying Cowboys – and the 68-year-old rocker would like some credit.
After seeing Braithwaite, 74, perform the track alongside Harry Styles at his final concert in Sydney last week, Jones says she wishes to be named as its writer every time Horses is performed.
Harry, 29, had also performed the song on his own during his concert in Melbourne in February.

‘Daryl is getting himself some glory and that’s fine,’ Jones told The Herald Sun on Friday.
‘But when you see it on the verge of having another life, and another way with Harry putting it down so well, I do confess, I would like to have my name mentioned as the writer of this’ she added.
Jones added that too many people mistake Braithwaite as the song’s writer, and it’s ‘Daryl’s responsibility’ to make it clear that it’s actually her composition.
‘He should say “I love this song, I had such a hit, but it is Ricky Lee Jones’ song” every time he goes out to sing it. I think he has nothing to lose by doing that’ she said.

Harry Styles surprised fans as he invited Braithwaite to the stage at his Sydney show last Saturday night to perform Horses as a duet.
The British superstar was on the second gig of his show at Accor Stadium when he called Daryl on stage.
The crowd erupted in cheers as the artists embraced one another before singing the iconic song.
A video of the historic performance was shared to the Accor Stadium’s official Twitter page.
