Did Joy Behar let slip that Whoopi Goldberg is set to star in a new Star Trek movie? The View fans spot ‘clues’ that comic accidentally ‘jumped the gun’ and revealed major career news

The View fans are speculating that Joy Behar accidentally let slip that Whoopi Goldberg has been cast in the next Star Trek movie after a rather awkward moment during Thursday’s show.

Joy’s apparent slip-up occurred during an interview with Hollywood actress Zoe Saldana, 45, who was quizzed by host Alyssa Farah Griffin, 34, about rumors surrounding the upcoming film – and whether or not she will be involved.

“Maybe, maybe,” she replied, looking at a grinning Whoopi.

Zoe added “a little bit,” to which Whoopi, 68, repeated: “A little bit.”

Joy, 81, quickly turned to Whoopi and warned: “Don’t give any hand shakes yet.”

The Oscar winner seemed slightly confused and asked, “Say what now?”

Joy replied, “No more ticking, don’t tell them you already got the job… Did you get the job?”

Whoopi was left open-mouthed when Zoe asked, “For Star Trek?” Oh my God!’

The stunned Sister Act star shouted: ‘What happens now? I have no other job, I’m trying to get home to Sardinia.’

“You got it, don’t you?” cohost Sara Haines questioned, to which Whoopi fired back, “I don’t know!”

Eager to get a concrete answer, Alyssa, 34, added: “Zoe, can you talk about it?”

“No, I just found out at the same time as you guys that they’ve hired a new writer and are working on a fourth script,” Zoe replied.

‘I would love to go back. It was an amazing experience to be able to incarnate these characters as part of such a legendary show that marked people’s lives and continues to do so. I love being in space guys! I love Earth, but I love being in space!’

DailyMail.com has contacted representatives from Whoopi and Paramount, the studio behind Star Trek.

Unsurprisingly, the awkward moment didn’t go unnoticed by viewers, with one posting on X: ‘So Joy jumped the gun? Whoopi wasn’t ready to make that announcement about Star Trek. LOL.’

“I had to rewind that bit from Star Trek to make sure I didn’t miss the clues #TheView,” another admitted.

A third person said: ‘Zoë Saldaña talks about the potential Star Trek 4 on #TheView! Has Joy let you know that Whoopi is returning to Star Trek?’

And a fourth viewer joked: ‘Whoopi is going to punch Joy during the commercial break lol.’

Mother-of-one Whoopi played the role of Guinann in 28 episodes of the TV series Star Trek: The Next Generation between 1988 and 1993, alongside the likes of Sir Patrick Stewart, Gates McFadden, Michael Dorn and Jonathan Frakes.

Zoe played the role of Nyota Uhura in the 2013 film Star Trek Into Darkness and 2016’s Star Trek Beyond.

Earlier this week it was announced that a much-discussed fourth film could still be shot, as Steve Yockey has reportedly signed on as the new screenwriter.

The sequel to Star Trek Beyond has been plagued by a number of setbacks in recent years, including the departure of director Matt Shakman in August 2022.

The filmmaker signed on to direct Fantastic Four for Marvel, prompting Paramount to remove the film from the release calendar the following month.
