Dianne Buswell celebrates Strictly win with her family as they travel from Australia to watch her lift the Glitterball trophy for the first time with Chris McCausland

Dianne Buswell appeared to be spending some well-deserved time with her family after lifting the glitterball trophy with her Strictly partner Chris McCausland on Saturday evening.

The professional dancer, 34, is enjoying quality time with her family who flew in from Australia to watch the couple perform.

Dianne’s father Mark, who underwent cancer treatment last year, and mother Ria were left in tears as they watched their daughter win the BBC show for the first time this weekend.

And Dianne’s brother Andrew is also visiting from down under, as he shared a series of sweet clips of the dancer and her niece and nephew.

Dianne decorated her home with a ‘WINNER 2024’ banner and balloons and hugged her nephew Roman before Joe pulled her niece Zofia around in a toy train.

In another adorable clip, Dianne read Zofia a bedtime story, while Andrew captioned the post: “Zofia has been talking about this moment for months.”

The star often shares her family support on Instagram with her niece and sends her well wishes to ‘Aunt Dot’ every week.

Dianne and Chris, 47, were crowned 2024 champions after the comedian made history as the show’s first-ever blind contestant and winner.

Chris sent fellow finalists Tasha Ghouri, JB Gill and Sarah Hadland to the post in the ‘best ever’ final, with his cheeky humor and inspiring story helping save the show after a year of scandal.

Taking to her Instagram Story, Dianne also shared an emotional moment with her parents as they hugged each other after her incredible win.

Elsewhere Joe, who first met Dianne on Strictly Come Dancing in 2018, proudly shared a photo gallery praising the dancer for her hard work and ‘determination’.

The YouTuber wrote: ‘There are no words to describe how proud I am of you both @diannebuswell @chrismccauslandcomedy, Last night was an absolute movie.

“You made us laugh, you made us cry and you proved to the world that you are good enough and can achieve everything the doubters say you can’t and more.

“Chris, thank you for making this year so special for Dianne and I couldn’t be happier that you are the partner she finally lifted the glitter ball with.

‘Dot, it’s been a winding road full of ups and downs for seven years, but you showed sheer determination and dedication and you got there in the best way possible and everyone got to see how great you are and what an incredible teacher who you are this year.

“You both are inspirations and hold the hearts of the nations from everyone, thank you.”

It is the first time Dianne has won Strictly after reaching the final last year with partner EastEnders actor Bobby Brazier, 20, but losing to Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola.

Dianne previously lost the win in 2018 when she teamed up with her now boyfriend Joe as Stacey Dooley and Kevin Clifton lifted the Glitterball.

Meanwhile, Chris has reflected on his ’emotional’ victory, saying he will ‘never be part of something like that again’.

The blind comedian has won praise for ‘breaking barriers’ on television after winning the BBC show during the weekend.

Breaking his silence on his incredible win, Chris wrote on Saturday night was emotional and I haven’t fully recovered yet.

“Thank you all so much for appreciating what we were able to do. It was an incredible experience. Lots of love to you all #Strictly!’

Disability charity Scope claimed that Chris’ appearance on the show will help to ‘change perceptions’ and start a conversation about disability inclusion.

Alison Kerry, head of communications at disability equality charity Scope, said: ‘It’s fantastic that Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell have won the Glitterball Trophy.

‘One in four of us in Britain is disabled. Disability representation on TV, especially on a major BBC show, is so important.

‘It helps break down barriers, changes attitudes and gives viewers a better understanding of the lives, talent and potential of people with disabilities.

‘Thanks to Chris’ winning performance, perceptions will be challenged and more people will have conversations about the importance of disability inclusion and accessibility.

‘Strictly’s impact on breaking down barriers cannot be understated. It is an extremely popular and entertaining program. But the media industry still has a long way to go to achieve true disability representation.”
