Diana Ross set to celebrate her 80th birthday ‘with a party to remember’ and have the ultimate A-list guest list… topping her iconic 75th bash

Singing legend Diana Ross will celebrate her 80th birthday this weekend with a party that will be “something to remember,” according to her son Evan Ross.

The Supremes icon, 79, set the bar high with her 75th birthday party in 2019 – where Beyoncé sang Happy Birthday, while Diana performed a private concert with five wardrobe changes.

The previous bash included guests such as: Stevie Wonder, Leonardo DiCaprio, Heidi Klum, Chris Rock and Sean Combs.

Ahead of his mother’s 80th birthday, Evan said, “I think she’s going all in, which is exciting.”

Private jets fly a galaxy of guests to Ross’s £12 million estate Quarry Farm in Connecticut, where her 11-bedroom, 12,562 sq ft mansion hosts the festivities.

At an age when others might be reaching for their slippers and a rocking chair, the entertainer shows no sign of slowing down.

Diana’s Music Legacy Tour, which played in Europe and Britain last year, continues across America with shows in eight cities over 11 days in May – a grueling pace at any age.

“I want to do it, so it’s not really work. When I walk on stage, I really have fun,” she previously told Interview magazine.

It’s a work ethic that has earned Diana 18 number one hits, including Aint No Mountain High Enough, Touch Me In The Morning and I’m Coming Out.

She has also earned twelve Grammy nominations, two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the largest album sales of any female artist in music history.

Amazingly, Diana – who looks half her age – was named as the new face of Saint Laurent’s Spring 2024 campaign in January.

She appears on billboards looking slim and sexy in a form-fitting black off-the-shoulder dress with a halter neck, her raven mane framing a face barely marked by wrinkles despite years of hardship and fear.

Raised in poverty in urban Detroit, Michigan, Diana endured decades of struggle, sexism and exploitation in the music industry and Hollywood, only to emerge as the ultimate survivor.

She is worth an estimated £200million, with mansions in Los Angeles, Connecticut and Florida, but looking back on her career she insists: ‘I didn’t do it for the money. I did it out of love for the work, the singing.’

Diana attributes her youthful appearance to a healthy lifestyle.

Her singer-songwriter daughter Rhonda revealed: ‘There’s no party, no groupies, no fans on the bus, no booze or drugging. Our meals are regular and sleep is surprisingly regular.”

Diana has left behind the hard partying that got her arrested for drunken driving in 2002 while attending rehab in Arizona for substance abuse and sentenced to two days in jail.

When Diana isn’t touring, she tries to be in bed by 9 p.m. and up fresh at 7 a.m. for an early workout at her home gym.

‘I sleep well. I read positive thinking books before I go to bed so that good thoughts are in my head. I don’t actually read that much fiction. I read gardening and cookbooks,” Diana said.

She eats lightly all day and spends time with her three daughters and seven grandchildren to recharge her emotional batteries.

Her beauty regimen is minimal and consists of sunscreen, eyeliner, and washing her makeup with soap and water every night.

“I never think of myself as beautiful,” she once said. ‘I like to think of myself as healthy. Beauty comes from being healthy. It means being a good person, having integrity and loyalty and being true to your work.”

She watches her diet closely after becoming anorexic in the 1960s when the Supremes became embroiled in warring egos, despite hits like Baby Love and Stop! In the name of love.

“Sometimes the stress would get so bad that I couldn’t eat,” she admitted. “I just couldn’t swallow anything.”

Ross takes occasional fasts to boost her metabolism, drinking only water with lemon and vegetable stock.

Diana was portrayed as self-important and manipulative by her fellow Supremes and left the group to further her own career. “People will always try to blame someone else for why their life isn’t working.”

She enjoyed spectacular solo success in the disco glitterball era and made her Hollywood debut in 1972 playing Billie Holiday in the biographical film Lady Sings The Blues.
