Prince William reveals his mum Diana introduced him to the issue of homelessness at a ‘young age’ – and he’s ‘very glad’ she did

Prince William has admitted that his late mother would be ‘disappointed’ that the UK is still not further in tackling the problem of homelessness.

The Prince of Wales appeared in a short film in Comic Relief last night, where he sat down with two people who had experienced homelessness: Nawshin and Miles.

In the candid conversation, William said his mother, Diana, the Princess of Wales, had invested her entire life in tackling the problem.

“My mom introduced me to the cause of homelessness from a young age and I’m really glad she introduced me to it — that part of life,” he said.

“I think she’d be disappointed that we’re still no further in tackling homelessness and preventing it than we probably were when she was interested and involved.”

Nawshin described her story as “relatively complicated,” having been in and out of a mental hospital and also homeless.

She said the constant changes had affected her “psyche,” adding: “It erodes your self-confidence. You are no longer a unique individual.’

“Life threw so many things at me. I had to lose everything to find out what I needed,” he said.

“When you’re homeless, you don’t have a support network, you don’t have people you can rely on, it just makes the pain of the situation so much worse,” Nawshin added, to which William nodded in the affirmative.

“There’s a lot of stigma, there’s a lot of misconceptions about what homelessness is,” William said.
