DGCA establishes internal working groups to develop regulatory standards for eVTOLs
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has set up internal working groups to study various aspects related to the operation of electric air taxis and develop appropriate regulations, the government said on Monday.
With regard to electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for passenger transport, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has established the Advanced Air Mobility Study Group, given the rapid technological advancement of new entrants and the potential impact on the aviation ecosystem.
“In addition, the DGCA has also constituted internal working groups to study various aspects related to the operation of eVTOL so that they can frame appropriate regulations/requirements for India,” Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
He said that these working groups will study relevant regulations of other countries/aviation authorities, seek inputs from industry experts/academic community and develop appropriate criteria in their respective areas of expertise to enable regulation for eVTOL operations in India.
“There have been no specific budgetary provisions so far” for eVTOLs allocated to local research and startups in the country, he added.
